Can you believe this is my 8th annual holiday gift guide? It’s hard to believe that what started as an already-pretty-intense process has grown every year. Thank you for your continued anticipation and for sharing this with your friends and family — you always make all the hard work worthwhile!
What is THE hot gift this year? Well, I couldn’t pick just one (of course), so I split all of my great finds into four distinct categories below. In them, you’ll find Christmas gifts for parents, gift ideas for friends, Hanukkah gifts for babies, family Christmas gifts, Mommy & Me gift ideas, Christma-kah prezzies for kids of all ages and the best his & hers holiday gift ideas, too.
I’m also introducing a lot of local flavour into this year’s guide. I think it’s so, so important to support Canadian-made and our local artisans and not just the big box stores and brands. So you’ll find some really awesome local folks (who ship across the country) and their wares sprinkled throughout my gift guide, too.
In some cases, I’ve featured things we’ve had and loved for a while, while in others, they’re hot-off-the-press and would have made my own personal covet list for the holidays. In every case, however, you can trust that we’ve looked at, touched, played with, used and/or otherwise handled each and every item that’s featured. As always, brands can’t buy their way into my hot gift guide and I don’t share items with you based on press releases or JPGs either. Think of us as your quality control team.

This year is bigger and better than ever in terms of the contest, too — with four HUGE giveaways (and a grand total of around $10,275 in prizing). You’ll be able to enter any or all of them at the very end of the guide or on my contest page.
Keep in mind that some of the products from the “for her” list can work equally well in the “for him” list just like some of the “baby” products may last through the “kid” years — I really just needed a way to split up all this awesomeness.
There’s also no specific order here…just because something might be listed first, doesn’t mean it’s because it’s the best in its category; it just means that I didn’t want to spend any extra time trying to rank stuff. And that’s because I do this in my spare time — so I try hard to get ‘er done as efficiently as possible.
Drumroll, please…
Here it is: THE hot gift guide for 2019
GIFTS FOR BABIES + TODDLERS
WHAT’S IT CALLED? PomPoms in the Sky mobile

Why do I love it? When I saw these gorgeous handmade mobiles come across my Insta-feed, I knew I had to see them in person. They’re high-quality, interesting and made-to-order, so you can work with the designers on something bespoke just for your little person. Customers chose the colour palette, materials (felt balls, yarn balls or both) and then the add-ons (wooden beads, wrapping the ring) so each one is unique.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Gymini from Tiny Love
Why do I love it? This contrasting black and white “baby gym” will not only look great alongside contemporary home decor, but it’s also fantastic for your baby’s developing vision. WHAT’S IT CALLED? Love to Hug Elmo
Why do I love it? This isn’t the first time that I’ve had Elmo in a gift guide. And even though my own kids were never really into Sesame Street, it was one of my favourite childhood shows and I think the messages and values that come from it are more important than ever — about acceptance and love and celebrating differences. Plus, who doesn’t love hugs? (He also sings and talks!)

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Attitude Little Leaves toiletries
Why do I love it? We’ve been using ATTITUDE sunscreen for a couple of years and I really like that the line is (a) Canadian and (b) EWG verified. They’re also all vegan if that’s important to you. The new little leaves line includes gentle bubble wash, body lotion, 2-in-1 shampoo/body wash, conditioner and foaming hand soap — all of which are specifically designed for kids. (Don’t worry, moms and dads can use them all as well.)

WHAT’S IT CALLED? We Made Me Flow stretchy baby wrap
Why do I love it? I absolutely LOVED my stretchy wraps when my babies were in those first months of life, but I remember wearing The K Man in the heat of the summer (he’s a June baby) and cutting some of our walks short because it was just too damn hot. This wrap has the perfect amount of stretch — you never want one without! — and its fabric is self-regulating and very breathable. Those features would also make this wrap great for those who like to wear their babies under babywearing ponchos, fleeces and hoodies, ensuring everyone stays the right temperature. Little Mr L here and me were both super comfy-cozy.

As kids get older, they can reach for things themselves and you can focus on the road.

GIFTS FOR KIDS
WHAT’S IT CALLED? Springfree Trampoline
Why do I love it? What’s not to love? My kids and their friends still play on our Springfree Trampoline three seasons out of the year and it never loses its novelty. It’s also a fantastic way to reconnect with your kids away from screens and other distractions — just be aware that you’ll use muscles you may have not used in a while, so don’t get carried away. LOL! Thinking of giving your kids a HUGE surprise this holiday season? From Nov. 22 to Dec. 2, you could save up to $699 on the purchase of a Springfree Trampoline during its Black Friday sale.
How much is it? Prices start at $1,649 but vary depending on the trampoline size and accessories you select. (Note: this prize pack includes one Medium Round trampoline with a FlexrStep, delivery and installation valued at $2,117 before tax. Delivery & installation is included only if the winner resides in the Greater Vancouver, Calgary or Greater Toronto Area; if the winner is from outside if these areas, there would be a charge for delivery and installation.)

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Blinger
Why do I love it? Remember the Bedazzler? It’s just like that but without the permanence of putting holes in your bags, clothes and other adorned items. This bling is strong but temporary, so it can even go in your hair. Load, Clink, Bling!

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Power Up 2.0 Electric Paper Airplane Conversion Kit
Why do I love it? An initial word of warning: do not use this indoors or near long hair. It flew farther than we expected and careened into a display clear across the room when we first tried this paper-airplane engine, and on our second attempt, The K Man accidentally shot it right into my freshly coiffed hair, which wrapped around the propeller with more speed and force than I would have expected. Other than that, this is really fun! and you can use it with your own homemade paper airplanes, too.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Photojournalist Barbie
Why do I love it? Miss Q wants to be a lot of things when she grows up, but “photographer” has been a consistent dream for a while. Barbie always lives her best life and has the coolest jobs — and she just so happens to have partnered with National Geographic this year to introduce some awesome professions (like wildlife photographer, marine biologist and wildlife conservationist) to kids. Shhhh! Miss Q doesn’t know this will be under the tree!

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Pictionary Air
Why do I love it? OK, this is really, really super-duper neat. You can use your TV or any smart device to play this fancy new version of Pictionary; players draw in the air with a special pen and their drawings show up on your preferred screen so everyone on the team can guess. I’ve seen it in action and it really works! Such a fun twist on a classic game and at a great price.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Scruff-A-Luvs
Why do I love it? I saw this at a toy event and thought it was such a neat concept. Your kid takes this little ball of matted “scruffy” fur and washes it (in the bath!), dries it, brushes it and gives it a whole lotta TLC and it ultimately rewards him or her with a stuffy! The fun part is that you don’t really know which Scruff-A-Luv you get until you rescue it. Very cute. Just a word of caution: your stuffy will take time to clean up and may still look a bit scruffy in the end.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? The Good Egg
Why do I love it? We browse at Indigo pretty regularly — probably at least twice a month — and I never mind spoiling my kids with books. Passing by one of the display tables one day, Miss Q ran over and picked up this book, rattling on about her librarian-reading-it-at-school and how-much-she-loved-it and oh-could-we-get-it-for-home. So this book simply had to be in this year’s gift guide! Perfect for the 3-9 age range, The Good Egg tells the story of a pack of dozen eggs and how its very best egg tries to make all of the others be just as good.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Playmobil rocket launcher + riding arena
Why do I love it? We’re a bit late to the Playmobil game at our house, which is odd since the kids I used to nanny in the UK back in the late ’90s were super into these sets. I had no idea when these showed up at our door that Miss Q would be so into them — but she is! And because it’s pretty easy for kids to build on their own, you have the perfect distraction to cook dinner or sit and read a book while they figure it all out. That’s the gift that keeps on giving.
How much is it? $32.99 for Riding Arena with Lucky and Javier; $84.99 for Mission Rocket with Launch Site.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Sloth to the Rescue
Why do I love it? My friend Leanne Shirtliffe is a brilliant children’s storyteller. As a teacher, she quietly weaves in the educational with the emotional to create books that are the perfect blend of edu-tainment. Kids won’t even know they’re learning when you read Sloth to the Rescue with them — about a sloth who enlists the help of his animal friends to return his favourite little girl’s forgotten notebook to her at school.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Rubik’s Touch Cube
Why do I love it? For visually impaired players, Rubik’s has created its iconic game with different shapes and textures on each side — not just colours. I first heard about this at a toy event and had to get my hands on it. Well, I can confirm that it’s as great as I’d hoped and I love that this company is thinking about adaptability.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Creatable World Kit
Why do I love it? Available exclusively at Mastermind Toys this year, this is the first gender-neutral (and gender-fluid) doll on the market. There’s also a lot of diversity represented with all kinds of skin tones, hairstyles and mix-and-match clothing and accessories that have no clearly defined boundaries. And I love it.
How much is it? $39.99 (Note: there will be a $40 Mastermind Toys gift card in the prize pack so you can choose the doll of your dreams.)

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Starlink: Battle For Atlas – starter kit for Nintendo Switch
Why do I love it? We got to try out the new Starlink: Battle for Atlas game recently and both of my kids went nuts for it. Your controller becomes a custom-built starship that appears on-screen according to the way you create it in your hand — add a flame-thrower? It shows up on the screen. Packing a missile launcher? There it is, ready for you to use in the game. With lots of different ships and weapons to mix and match, the game is as much about what’s happening in your build as it is with what’s happening in the game itself. (As of April 2019, the game will be digital-only. You’re still able to play with the physical toys, but Ubisoft is not creating new stock. You can still purchase previously released ships and pilots from the Ubi Store; price ranges from $6.99 to $19.99.)
How much is it? $59.99 for the Starter Pack (though I’ve seen it on sale recently for as low as $29.99!).

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Big Life Journal for Kids + for Teens
Why do I love it? We got the original Big Life Journal for my niece last year and I just love the whole concept so much — and that they’ve added a tween/teen version this year for kids 11+ — that we’ve ordered them for both of my kids and nieces this year. It’s all about mindfulness and providing writing and thinking prompts that help kids develop a resilient growth-mindset so they can face life’s challenges with confidence. WHAT’S IT CALLED? Disney DVDs!
Why do I love it? Disney movies are always part of our lives. We’ve been watching them with the kids on the big screen, at home on DVDs and on iPads with the digital versions while travelling since our wee ones were toddlers. We have yet to meet a Disney film we don’t love. From new releases to classics, add these to your stocking stuffer list!

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Hush “teen” weighted blanket
Why do I love it? We originally ordered this twin-sized wonder for The K Man to help ease some of his sleep issues, but he quickly determined it was too small (he’s in a king-sized Casper bed), so we passed it along to his sister. Although the 10-pound weight is probably a bit more than she really needs, she LOVES it! While we used to find her coiled up in blankets just hours after putting her to bed, now when we check on her, she hasn’t budged. She’s also had far fewer nightmares and that means we’ve had far fewer visits in the night. That’s a win-win.
How much is it? Prices vary depending on the size and weight of your blanket; if you order within the next two weeks (until Nov 26/19) using the code MOMMYGEAREST, Hush is offering my readers $40 off any blanket (and after that, you’ll still get $30 off using my code!).

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Little Borne sweatsuit from POPPYS
Why do I love it? This Little Borne sweatsuit is unisex, comfotable, effortlessly trendy and superb quality. Yes, it’s a bit of a splurge, but how many things could you pass down from son to daughter and back to son again? Thanks to doubled-up fabric on elbows and knees, even if your kid is The Destroyer, these are garments that are built to last. Sensory-sensitive kiddos will also appreciate that there are no tags inside either piece, and parents will appreciate the easy-to-care-for 100% organic cotton jersey fabric. (For sizing reference, Miss Q is in the size 9/10 and she comfortably wears between a girls’ 8-10 at GAP.)

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Stop Reading This Book!
Why do I love it? It seems I have a few brilliant author friends, and Caroline Fernandez is another one! This is the story of a book judging a reader by their “cover.” It almost dares the reader to turn each page, and ultimately turns him or her into the hero of their own story by overcoming the challenges the book issues in an effort to roadblock reading. It’s a fun read that can be as fast or as slow as you can handle.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? 11 Past Eleven Unicorn Kiss + Birthday Cake candles
Why do I love it? These candles smell amazing!!! The Unicorn Kiss has a piece of rose quartz on top — the crystal of unconditional love — and features a sweet nectar-like scent (a bubblegummy blend of banana, grapefruit, kiwi and strawberry) while Birthday Cake (topped with quartz crystals sprinkles, no less) smells like actual cake. While it’s baking. In your oven. Right now. You’ll want to sniff it over and over again. Perfect for those with holiday-time birthdays!

WHAT’S IT CALLED? American Girl of the Year 2020: Blaire doll and book set

Blaire Wilson is the American Girl of the Year for 2020 and a chef-in-training, party planner and chicken wrangler at her family’s farm and restaurant.
How much is it? $129 (Note: Blaire and her book are included in the prize pack. Accessories sold separately.)

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Tile Sticker
Why do I love it? I’ve been using a Tile on my key chain for a couple of years and I’m so happy that they’ve expanded the line to include slimmer Tiles and these Stickers. Ideal for locating kids’ things — from scooters and bikes to iPads and smartphones — these Tile Stickers are waterproof and have excellent staying power. If only they could come when they’re called… 😉

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Battleship Shots
Why do I love it? “You sunk my battleship!” was a common phrase for those of us who grew up in the early ’80s. And this new take on the game will have your kids up and moving around, aiming for their opponent’s ships with these lightweight balls. You need to bounce or toss balls over the divider and land shots in the opposite ships to sink them and win the game. It’s basically beer pong for kids. Without the beer, of course.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? FurReal Cubby The Curious Bear
Why do I love it? Just a heads-up: this bear is much bigger than it appears online! I was surprised by its scale when it arrived, but that’s perhaps because we’ve had FurReal pets before and they’re usually a bit more compact. This interactive bear will blow kisses, drink from the bottle, plays peek-a-boo, snuggles and make lots of cute noises. Bonus points for a sleep mode and an off button! Batteries not included.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? JustDance 2020
Why do I love it? You no longer need Kinect or any kind of motion-sensing technology on your gaming console to play JustDance, which is all kinds of awesome. We’ve been dancing to the beat of JustDance for a few years and not only is it super-fun to do with your kids but it’s a GREAT workout, too!

WHAT’S IT CALLED? TweetBeats
Why do I love it? These are adorbz! Each bird has its own beat or melody, and when you move them around to different branches, they change things up — but always work in harmony with one another. You can create lots of differents sounds by combining one, some or all of them and moving them around on their “tree.”

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Azul board game
Why do I love it? This is more than just a board game. It’s a story, history and an art lesson all rolled into one. Azul captures the beautiful aesthetics of Moorish art as players compete as artisans who are decorating the walls of the royal Palace of Dvora. Moorish decorative tiles — called “azulejos,” which were originally white and blue ceramic — captivated the attention of Portuguese King Manuel I during a visit to the Alhambra Palace in Southern Spain, and he later demanded his own palace be decorated in the same way. In this game, you are a tile-laying artist who’s been challenged to embellish the King’s walls!

The flik flak line is durable and uses materials that are gentle on delicate skin. They’re also shock-resistant, allowing kids to be kids, and can withstand a normal 40-degree wash cycle (just pop ’em into a sock first).

WHAT’S IT CALLED? White Feather Designs initial necklace
Why do I love it? I love delicate, minimalist jewelry and when you add personalization, I’m all in! This local jeweler can add as many initials to your necklace as you like, and they can be worn offset on your neck for something a bit different. Finished in gold, rose gold or silver, each necklace is plated over brass and is nickel-free. I’ve worn mine through workouts and showers for several weeks, and the plating is still standing strong. WHAT’S IT CALLED? Manta sleep mask
Why do I love it? Facebook ads work — I admit it. I saw this in my feed and wanted to try one immediately. Because as someone who prefers a pitch-black environment for sleeping but also has volume lash extensions, regular eye masks simply don’t work. I will prioritize my lashes every time! The Manta Sleep Mask really does provide a total blackout experience, is totally adjustable and comfortable enough that I can wear it all night. WHAT’S IT CALLED? Aide Bodycare set
Why do I love it? I had tried a dozen natural deodorants and failed hard on all but one and that one happened to be available only through an online retailer in the USA, which isn’t exactly cost-effective for me nor is it easy to just go and grab one on-the-fly. So when I heard about Aide Bodycare from my Orangetheory coach, I was excited that something made locally might be effective enough for even my toughest, sweatiest workout days. And it is. I’m also swooning for Aide’s facial serum and body scrub, and will be popping the charcoal soap into Big B’s stocking. Everything is made onsite by hand with the most minimal ingredients possible.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Mind Your Bees wraps
Why do I love it? We continue to make an effort to reduce our environmental footprint and these wraps are helping us replace our overuse of Saran Wrap! The only thing you can’t use your made-in-Hamilton-Ontario Mind Your Bees Wraps with is “heat and meat,” so we wrap up bread, half-cut fruits and veggies, and more in these. We keep them in the same drawer as our Saran Wrap and tin foil and make a concerted effort to reach for these first. Easy to use, easy to clean and locally made — plus pretty packaging and designs making them super giftable.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? PJ Salvage Mommy & Me set
Why do I love it? I have an ongoing love affair with PJ Salvage and don’t wear anything else to bed. The sets are cute and the fabrics are the coziest. Plus — HELLO! — they have oodles of new Mommy & Me sets every season and I’m still obsessed with matching my kids for as long as they’ll let me. And we borrowed our new baby cousin to show off how deep my matchy-matchy obsession can go with PJ Salvage! Pro tip: If you’re between sizes in the women’s pieces, size up; for kids, you want to size up one if not two sizes as the fit is small. For reference, Miss Q is wearing the 12-14 size here and normally wears an 8-10 at GAP.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Hot Girls Pearls
Why do I love it? I’ve hit the hot-flashes stage of my life and I’m here to tell you that they aren’t fun. But you don’t need to be battling perimenopause to enlist help from Hot Girls Pearls — they’d work equally well for those occasions when you’re at a party or restaurant and simply overheating. These liquid-filled “pearls” come with a freezer-pack carry case and you literally freeze the whole thing in your freezer. They’re cold on your neck but not so cold you’ll have your own case of freezer burn, and the cooling effect lasts for about four about an hour (then just re-freeze in the pouch!). They’re fabulous.

But what I love even more is that this brand allows me to do some more Mommy & Me matching! WHAT’S IT CALLED? THE TEN SPOT $100 gift card
Why do I love it? I had the opportunity recently to try out THE TEN SPOT that recently opened up near my hometown. Having never been there but seeing the prices online compared to the usual hole-in-the-wall joint that I frequent had me wondering if it could really be almost twice as good. And guess what? It was. The studio was scrupulously clean, staffed with smiling faces and skilled aestheticians, bright and welcoming with comfortable seating, and offered alcohol! I had an expert mani and pedi and am seriously rethinking my beauty budget so I can make THE TEN SPOT my spot.
How much is it? Prices vary based on services. (Note: a $100 gift card for any location in Canada will be included in the prize pack.)

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Bollé pink ski goggles
Why do I love it? I mean, other than the fact that they’re pink and that’s my fave colour, Bollé goggles are built to last and come in so many variations depending on your budget and needs and the usual conditions in which you ski or board. So there’s a pair for everyone. The Nevada 21837 model here is a great mid-range price point that’ll get you killer style and good lenses. (Pro Tip: if you’re looking for a superior lens that changes in an instant with the conditions, splurge on the Phantom+ lenses instead.)
How much is it? $100

WHAT’S IT CALLED? VIVA Scandinavia Alexander Tea Set with loose tea
Why do I love it? I never realized how much I enjoy Scandinavian design until I was styling my kitchen and I was continuously drawn to its simple, easy aesthetic. Combined with my affinity for tea, Viva Scandinavia’s entire line speaks to me. This set turned out to be smaller than I expected after seeing it online, but I love the look, colour and quality and think it would look beautiful displayed in a minimalist kitchen and enjoyed with fresh scones and close friends.
How much is it? $99 for set; $14.95 for loose tea.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Lebert Fitness Paralettes
Why do I love it? Don’t let the photo fool you — I love these Paralettes! (I was just a bit busy in the background being the photo director, costume changer, prop styler and general manager and needed a model.) On days that I can’t get to my beloved Orangetheory Fitness, these provide multiple options — not just pushups! — for a good at-home workout using my own bodyweight.
How much is it? $89.99 for the set.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? 11 Past Eleven candles
Why do I love it? These handcrafted 11-ounce soy wax candles burn long and clean. They’re made locally by a certified first-degree reiki healer and topped with charged crystals to create soothing, harmonious energies: Calm, Protection, Positive, Recharge and Grounded. Apparently, when crystals are combined with the active element of fire, energies increase. Here’s what I know: they smell amazing and are ultra-pretty.
How much is it? $28 each

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Rodan & Fields UNBLEMISH set
Why do I love it? OK — first off…I am not a Rodan + Fields rep, so you’ll have to find one to buy this regimen. Next…you’ve gotta be REALLY careful about giving gifts that come with unintended offense. So know your audience. Like, if your girlfriend is always asking you “Do I look fat in this?” you don’t get her a scale for Christmas. I will not be responsible for someone slapping you clear across the face for gifting an acne-fighting regimen. But what I will say is this: I was experiencing some pretty consistent adult acne thanks to the aforementioned perimenopause and I tried a lot of different products to combat it. This was the only line that (a) also addressed my aging concerns and (b) worked so well that I only had to use it for about a month to clear up my skin and I keep it solely for back-up but don’t need to use it every day anymore. Pro Tip: If you find that your skin is drier than usual after a few weeks of use, consider adding in an R+F serum just after the toner step.
How much is it? $186 for the full set.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Orangetheory trial membership & OTflex
Why do I love it? I’ve been going to Orangetheory three to four times a week for the past 2.5 years and have sent more people than I can count there, too. One thing’s for certain: everyone who goes loves it. It’s a killer HIIT workout, a supportive community and the best me-time I get in my week. The OTF app keeps tracking my progress and the heart-rate monitors help me pace myself properly in class. All in all, j’adore this fitness program. Your first class is free!
How much is it? Memberships vary based on the number of classes per month and location. (Note: this prize pack includes a short-term trial membership and an OTflex heart-rate monitor, which you can read more about in my Orangetheory gear post.)

WHAT’S IT CALLED?
1. L’Occitane My Fresh Essentials ornament
2. L’Occitane Shea Butter Dreams kit
3. L’Occitane Honey Harvest stocking stuffers
Why do I love these? These limited-edition sets are crying out for dry skin and chapped hands and lips! I’ve been splurging on L’Occitane’s hand cream since I was a PR intern in Toronto — before I could really afford it. And I’ve never had buyer’s regret! A little goes a long way with these products, so they last forever. Feel-good bonus: from October 23 to November 26, each purchase of a L’Occitane holiday edition product will help plant 10,000 trees.
How much are they? $14 for ornaments; $64 for Shea Butter Dreams set; $14 for the Honey Harvest soap + $12 for the Honey Harvest hand cream.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Neon Chicadee’s “The Gould” macrame hanging mason jar
Why do I love it? I am totally getting into the macrame trend but I’m starting small with The Gould from local artisan shop Neon Chicadee. Its rustic charm and organic elements create a design that would work with a variety of interiors in a variety of different rooms. I love this as a makeup brush container, but it would be lovely in a kitchen with herbs planted in it or in a living space with fresh-cut flowers.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? OOFOS OOmg shoes
Why do I love it? There’s a good reason why these are branded “OOmg” shoes. Because they’re OMG so good underfoot. I bought my first pair of OOFOS at Great Wolf Lodge of all places (I’d run my first 10k the week before and done some serious damage to the arch of my left foot and could barely walk around with my kids at the waterpark) and haven’t looked back. If you’re a runner, they’re what you need to slip on after a run. If you have plantar fasciitis, wear them indoors at all times. If you have bunions, prepare to feel the glory of the OOFOS. I’ve even worn them successfully right into the ocean to help release turtles in Jamaica — no colour fade, no salt stains and no material corrosion. Any foot issues at all? THESE ARE YOUR NEW SHOES. Don’t have foot issues and don’t want any? GET THESE. For reals.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Serengeti sunglasses
Why do I love it? I’ve been wearing these sunglasses on and off since April and every time I put them on, I want to get laser eye surgery so I can wear them all the damn time. The lenses are absolutely beautiful (and I’m a tough critic because I get very sunblind with these blue eyes of mine) and the style is an easy one for any face shape. They come in three different colours, too!

GIFTS FOR HIM
WHAT’S IT CALLED? Instax SQ6 camera
Why do I love it? These Fuji Instax cameras are just so much retro fun. With a square format, the SQ6 means you can get snap-happy without framing up your pic in portrait or landscape mode. Just point and click! And the instant pics print at 1.5 times the size of Instax mini prints so they’re bigger and better for all of your Insta-memories — in just 90 seconds. Comes with lithium batteries, film pack, shoulder strap and three fun strobe colour flash filters.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Big Tags
Why do I love it? Another Instagram find, Big Tags are made in Alberta and provide the perfect solution for families who travel a lot and need to quickly identify their bags to get on their way. The fabric is so thick and tough and I’m confident that our colour combination won’t be too hard to spot no matter where we go.
How much is it? $54.95 for a personalized set of four tags.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? OOFOS OOahh Sport Flex Slide Sandals
Why do I love it? Just like the OOmg shoes I included in the women’s section, I treated Big B to the new OOFOS Sport Flex slides and he exhaled in near ecstasy the first time he slipped them on. The size 14s were even a bit generous, giving him all the room his feet need to heal after a big run.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? The Jackass Whisperer
Why do I love it? I first met authors — and creators of the wildly popular Unpodcast and Unmarketing series — Alison and Scott Stratten at a social media conference several years ago. Their insights, shrouded in gut-busting humour most of the time, are thought-provoking, contemporary and applicable in life, work, parenting…you name it. Their newest book, The Jackass Whisperer, is basically your guide for dealing with the worst people on earth. It’s a quick, fun read that you’ll want to keep on your coffee table or for handy bathroom reading (because you don’t want to be the jackass who NEEDS a phone to poop, as you’ll soon learn…).

WHAT’S IT CALLED? POPsockets
Why do I love it? Guys, I’ve been using POPsockets for years. I love that they help me hang onto my phone and prevent it from falling during selfies (and other actually important photography), prop it up on the airplane tray so I can watch my reality TV downloads and also add a little pop of personality to my smartphone. There’s a colour or design to suit every mood. Note to husband: now I need the Car Dash & Windshield mount, please. K, thx.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Nest Fragrances spiced orange and clove reed diffuser + scented candle
Why do I love it? Give me anything orange and I’ll be yours for life. Add the spicy clove scent to these already-divine NEST products and they take on a sensual, masculine smell that will make any room irresistible.
How much is it? From $23 for candle; from $64 for reed diffuser set.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? skinFix 911 Ointment
Why do I love it? This is a cure-all ointment that I use on cracked heels, dry cuticles, chapped lips and more. It’s super concentrated: I’ve had my little 1.8-ounce tube for nearly a year and have barely made a dent in it. We’ll be packing one of these in our ski bag for the upcoming season, too — using it preventively on all of our cheeks to help with windburn.
How much is it? $32

WHAT’S IT CALLED? TEN AND CO
Why do I love it? These little square pieces of fabric may not look like much, but they’re little powerhouses that take the place of paper towel. Aside from the awesome designs, TEN AND CO’s sponge cloths are an inexpensive way to clean up messes that would otherwise use a bunch of paper towels that would then be discarded. Use one of these, ring it out, leave it to dry, repeat. Once ours start to look or smell dirty, we just toss them in the top shelf of our fingerprint-resistant stainless steel diswasher and run it with a regular load of dishes.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Philips Hue Wellner Table Lamp

Why do I love it? Once we installed the Philips Hue Bridge in our home, our smart lighting possibilities became endless. In addition to our gorgeous smart outdoor lighting, we’ve got a number of our interior lights connected to the Bridge as well (mostly in bedrooms, making it easier to manage our electrical bills if we leave the house and the kids have forgotten to turn off their lights — we just use the app and turn them off while we’re on the road), but this is our first lamp. The Wellner has a sleek, modern curved design and emits warm to cool white light at the touch of a button. And although it would look great in any room, it has advantages to being your bedside table lamp since you can set it to gradually increase its light intensity to stir you more naturally in the morning.
How much is it? $124.99 (Note: this prize pack will include both a Wellner lamp AND a Hue Bridge starter kit valued at $66.99).

WHAT’S IT CALLED? XBOX One games: Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 & Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Why do I love it? You’ve probably read on my site before that I was a big gamer when I was a kid and that I still love sitting down to a good race car or first-person-shooter game. These are two of the hottest new games out there and they have incredible graphics with stellar story lines to keep players infinitely engaged.
How much is it? $79.99 for Assassin’s Creed Origins or Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 (Note: this prize pack will include both digital game codes for the winner; may not be exactly as shown.)

WHAT’S IT CALLED? ActiCook & Stir by T-Fal
Why do I love it? If you tire of standing by the stove stirring like crazy to make the perfect oatmeal or risotto, the only self-stirring multicooker is here. T-Fal’s new ActiCook & Stir has 18 different programmable cooking modes, a self-cleaning button and makes everything from yogurt and desserts to chicken wings and chili. I love tossing in a cup of steel-cut oats, four cups of water, a heaping tablespoon of cinnamon and a diced apple (skin on!), turning it to the oatmeal seting and walking away. I’ve done this before bed and when we wake up, there’s piping hot oatmeal waiting for us because there’s a “keep warm” setting, too!

WHAT’S IT CALLED? IHG Rewards Points
Why do I love it? Do the InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Kimpton, Crowne Plaza and Indigo hotel chains mean anything to you? Thought so. Those are just a few of the brands under the IHG (InterContinental Hotel Group) umbrella and they all work with the same loyalty program: The IHG Rewards Club. Use your Rewards Club number every time you book a qualifying stay at an IHG property and those points add up to gift cards, free nights, sporting event tickets, gadgets and more. There’s also the IHG Rewards Club Access platform, which offers members the opportunity to bid and redeem rewards points for experiences, like concerts, tours and adventures, as well as exclusive vacation and getaway packages. How exactly is this a gift, you ask? Well, if you’re sitting on a big pile of IHG Rewards, you can actually gift them to others!
How much is it? That’s the best part — it costs you nothing to give! (Note: this prize pack will include 30,000 IHG Rewards points — you must have a free Club membership to receive them.)

WHAT’S IT CALLED? TOWN Brewery beer soap
Why do I love it? When a local brewer gets together with a local soap-maker, you get BEER SOAP! Such a fun mashup that has localy businesses supporting each other and producing a really interesting product offering for the beer lover on your list. (And, yes, it smells great!)

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Peak Performance men’s Argon jacket
Why do I love it? I already explained earlier why I love the Peak brand in general. Now let me tell you what Big B and I love about the Argon hooded jacket:
- It’s made from 100 per cent recycled materials, inside and out, furthering Peak’s commitment to sustainability
- The synthetic insulation is blown into woven channels without using stitch lines, making it more wind- and water-repellent
- It’s packable
- The torso and arms are nice and long for tall people
- THIS.THING.IS.SO.WARM! (Seriously.)
- Pro Tip: Peak tends to fit a bit on the smaller side but particularly with this item, if you’re between sizes, size up

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Lebert Fitness EQualizer
Why do I love it? Like the Paralettes I included as a hot gift FOR HER, the EQualizer from Lebert Fitness is perhaps even more versatile. Just those two bars allow you to do 100+ full-body, bodyweight exercises — ranging from the most beginner to the most advanced moves. (Don’t worry — you get a digital workout program to show you what these things can do.) Even though each bar weighs only 8 lbs., it supports up to 400 lbs.! And they come in an XL version (seen here) for people who measure 6’1″ and taller.
How much is it? From $130 per set.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Hush Blankets weighted blanket for adults
Why do I love it? You know how sometimes you don’t know you need something until you try it? Thus is the case with the king-sized weighted blanket from Hush that Big B and I have been testing out for more than a month. I’m not exaggerating when I tell you it has completely transformed my sleep. I fall asleep faster, toss and turn far less — and therefore wake up in the night far less — and never overheat anymore either. And I’m more well-rested in the morning as a result. I can’t praise this blanket enough!

The Original Casper pillow

Why do I love it? If you haven’t yet ready my Casper pillow review, here are the Cole’s Notes: it’s fluffy but not too much that there’s no firmness; it’s a pillow-in-a-pillow so you can wash the outer layer when needed; and with a bit of a beating, it goes right back to its original shape (and even my three-year-old pillow still looks and feels practically like new).
How much is it? From $85.

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Mastercard prepaid gift card
Why do I love it? For the person who has everything — there’s Mastercard. In the form of a prepaid gift card that works just like cash! Don’t believe them when they say giving gift cards is impersonal. I’m here to tell you that they’re my FAVOURITE thing in the whole world to receive, and this can be used anywhere that Mastercard is accepted. It really is The Perfect Gift.
How much is it? Any denomination you choose! (Note: this prize pack will include a $100 Mastercard prepaid gift card.)

WHAT’S IT CALLED? Cocktail Emporium cigar holder, art deco glasses + Old Fashioned kit
Why do I love it? Old Fashioned cocktails are among Big B’s and my favourite drinks ever, and we love going in search of new ingredients and garnishes to change them up. Cocktail Emporium’s Old Fashioned Gift Set not only comes with Brandied Cocktail Cherries, Candied Orange Peels, Woodford Bourbon Barrel-Aged Aromatic Bitters and a gunmetal muddler — say that five times fast — but it also represents a $22.95 savings than if you purchased each product separately. Pour your cocktails into these gorgeous Art Deco-style lowball glasses for some added elegance. Finally, the double-barrel cigar holder is a great gift for the guy who likes to travel in style with his stogies.
How much is it? $65 for the Old Fashioned Gift Set; $20 for the Art Deco Diamond Tumblers (sold individually); $31 for the Stainless Steel Cigar Holder.
