I received my first wet bag as a gift from one of my besties when The K Man was born. At the time, neither of us was a cloth diaper user and it wasn’t even called a wet bag, so the only conclusion we had of this product was that (1) it had a pretty pattern on it and (2) it would be awesome for poopy clothes.
It ended up attached to my diaper bag for at least the first two years of my son’s life; between poo explosions, spare clothes and wet swimsuits, I used my wet bag several times a week.
Then I started using cloth diapers, it occurred to me that these things were probably designed to haul poo- and pee-laden clothes in a diaper bag without making the whole thing stinky and dirty.
I’ve tried several different wet bags, and this review will encompass Itzy Ritzy’s full line of versatile wet bags – the larger Travel Happens products and the smaller Snack Happens bags. They are all essentially the same – all are covered in a cute-patterned cotton, all have zipper closures and all are lined with a waterproof membrane. They differ only in terms of their sizes.
A big thanks to Fulton Sales for sending me a few samples to test.
Itzy Ritzy should really change the name of its Travel Happens wet bags to Poop Happens. I don’t know if formula-fed babies have the same poo explosions that breastfed babies do – the kind that shoots straight up their backs…and sometimes down their sleeves. It’s the worst when you’re out and about. Your baby’s clothes become the wipes as you try to scoop up every glob of grossness without getting any on yourself. When this happens, you want to be darn sure you have a wet bag nearby because when you get home, you can just open the zipper and throw the whole mess in the washing machine – without removing the poopy clothes.
That brings me to my second point – the Itzy Ritzy wet bags can go in the washer AND dryer. They always come out perfectly clean and they don’t lose their shape or function.
Super-cute patterns, which is pretty standard for Itzy Ritzy.
I like that the mini snack bags come two to a pack; they really are the perfect size for younger kids.
Because the lining is waterproof, you can put so much more than just dry snacks in the smaller wet bags – think sandwiches, fruit and veg, too.
The Itzy Ritzy Travel Happens bags are great for swimming lessons, as long as your child doesn’t use a ginormous bath towel. We tend to put our kids into their bathingsuits before we leave for swimming, so we put a towel and undergarments in the wet bag on our way there. On the way back, it’s perfect for everything wet.
I really, really wish the Itzy Ritzy Travel Happens and Snack Happens wet bags had little handles with snap closures; it makes it so much easier to hang a large wet bag around a stroller frame or loop it around diaper bag handles, or for the smaller snack bags to be carried by wee hands.
I also wish the Travel Happens bags had an extra pocket on the outside; if you’re cloth diapering, you’ll want to have a spot for clean, dry diapers that can stay there once you have wet or soiled ones cooped up on the inside.
So…where can you buy them?
