I grew up with a Mom who never expected gifts on Mother’s Day (or any other occasion, really). She never wanted us to spend our money on her. She’s that kind of selfless, amazing person. I remember her actually giving me playful smacks when I defied orders and gave her something anyway.
So it’s followed suit that a lovely, handwritten card from my husband and kids is enough for me, too. But I’m not nearly as gift-phobic as my Mom, and I’m certainly not about to slap away any gift that’s presented to me.
But you’ve got to know your audience. Some Moms just want breakfast in bed, while others want you to really step up your game and splurge.
