Are you doing some “quarantine cooking” too? And realize you need to figure out how to make brown sugar? You’ve come to the right place. This brown sugar recipe will take you no time at all. Promise.

Look, I know I’m not really known for sharing recipes here — though I have shared a few gems here and there over the years — and that’s because I’m not a food blogger.
Nor will I ever be a food blogger because that’s not my natural wheelhouse. And, besides, there are plenty of awesome food bloggers out there who you can follow and listen to.
But these are weird times, and being home 24/7 means I’m getting a lot of time in the kitchen. And as I try really hard to avoid going to public places if I don’t have to, like the grocery store, it also means I’m getting more creative than ever.
So, as my kids and I got ready today to make those famous department-store-chain-mail cookies (stay tuned for those), I realized I didn’t have any brown sugar. I loathe buying the stuff because it would always go hard in between my formerly infrequent baking sessions (and, yeah, I know the tricks to try and keep it soft…that’s how often I bake, folks).
I just didn’t have any in my pantry, OK?!
But, thanks to Google, I learned how to make brown sugar using just two ingredients, and I thought I’d show you how easy it is to create DIY brown sugar using just granulated white sugar and molasses.
Here’s my video that shows you how to make brown sugar:
Do you know how to make brown sugar an alternative way? Please share it in the comments. I think a lot of people are in the same boat as me and just trying to make do with what they already have.
Psssst! Baking with your kids is a great way to pass the time during lockdown, but if you need to occupy them so you have time to yourself or so you can work from home, check out my free homeschooling resources.
P.S. Thank you for washing your hands and practising good public distancing!
