This is Melody Ellison — American Girl’s newest BeForever character. She’s nine and lives in Detroit during the Civil Rights movement of the ’60s. She’s into Motown music and is inspired by both it and Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream of fairness and equality. We always love how American Girls and their stories connect today’s children to those of the past. Like American Girl’s other 18-inch dolls, Melody is intended for kids who are 8+; Miss Q (5.5), however, fell in love with Melody, adored her outfit (especially her shoes) and had a fun tea party with the rest of her American Girl friends. The books are still a bit too old for her, though (no pictures!). We really like Melody’s details and her story is one worth telling and re-telling. If your little one is three or under, consider a Bitty Baby instead, or for those in the 4 to 7 age range, check out American Girl’s new WellieWishers dolls.
