It’s 2021 and this is my 10th Holiday Gift Guide.
(And I’m giving away $13,000+ in holiday gifts, too!)
Can you even believe that this holiday gift guide is in its 10th year? It has grown from pretty humble beginnings before I’d even been blogging for a full year into one of the most robust guides in the country across any medium, filled to the digital brim with ideas for just about anyone on your list.
As always, brands can’t buy their way in. We don’t choose gifts based on JPGs from PR agencies — we make sure every single thing listed here has been vetted and/or tried out by me, my family or people I personally chose to help test things for age groups we can’t accommodate at home. In fact, this year, we cut more products before they reached the guide than in any other year, either because they just didn’t work or because they didn’t live up to our expectations.
Remember, just because something has gone viral on TikTok or YouTube doesn’t mean it’s great. You can trust that if you find it in my 2021 holiday gift guide, we’ve given it our official stamp of approval.
One BIG note: across the board, shipping issues are expected for this holiday season. Supply chain and all that. Things are still getting stuck at borders and products coming from overseas are already experiencing major delays. This is also costing more at every stage and unfortunately that means you might find holiday shopping more expensive this year. You might, then, be tempted to wait for sales. But don’t — not if you have your heart set on something. Not this year. Shop early to avoid disappointment; if you see it, grab it.
Also consider shopping small where you can, using local stores. Consider your neighbourhood makers and both in-person and online markets that feature them collectively.
A couple of quick things about this year’s guide (and then I swear we’re almost done with this upfront stuff!):
- There are LOADS of discount codes below (up to 40% off!) so be sure to look for each one and know that I do not make a penny if you purchase. I don’t do affiliate sales — this is just to help you save money!
- Prices listed are in Canadian dollars, unless otherwise stated
- Nothing is in order of preference, so just because something’s listed first, doesn’t mean it’s my favourite — same for anything listed last
- Just because something is listed in one category, doesn’t mean it won’t work for another so please be sure to check out the entire gift guide. Even if you’re not shopping for a teenager, you might find something in that section for yourself or another adult in your life. In many cases, products work for multiple people on your gift list even if you find it in only one category below
- One of the new features in this year’s guide is a quick cheat sheet you can use to shop brands and businesses owned by Canadians, women, queer (LGBTQA2+) folx, or Indigenous and Black/POC entrepreneurs. Aaaaaaaand, this year I also sought out youth entrepreneurs — kids who are making a mark and showing off business smarts early. If you see multiple symbols in an individual listing, that business identifies in more than one way — for example, we may have a single maker who is a Canadian queer woman and also a person of colour. Look for these icons under the “what is it” product description (above the picture) in each listing, where applicable
- Everything featured below can be shipped across Canada, so please be sure to support the businesses that speak to you the most; many are also available in the USA and globally

Why do we love it? Brought to you by a family of homesteaders who keep chickens, ducks, a large garden and greenhouse, and run a small apiary, Anointment prioritizes certified organic ingredients and boasts a very small waste stream in its production. The sherpa washcloths are like nothing I ever had for my babies and are the softest cloths I’ve ever held in my hands. I love the company’s commitment to clean ingredients and the prices are outstanding. The company also composts all of its spent herbs. WHAT IS IT? Little Bean pod — from Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? This adorable swaddle sack with matching hat makes swaddling a breeze for babies who don’t need an ultra-tight squeeze. Little Bean regularly supports local by buying fabric from small, local Toronto shops. When the owner travels, she often buys fabric from a small shops in those areas, too. (For example, when she went to Sweden, she bought the fabric for her Swedish garden hair bows). Our tester’s baby really liked the light swaddle of this pod and mom loved the cute design.
How much is it? $38. Everything in Little Bean’s shop (except the bow ties you’ll see later in the guide) ship free across Canada. Shipping to the USA is a flat rate of $6.00 for one item and and $2.00 for each additional item after that.

WHAT IS IT? The Adventures of Grandmasaurus: At the Aquarium Rescue Centre — author from Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Caroline’s books have been in our home and children’s lives for years. The second book in the Grandmasaurus series takes readers on a Mesozoic adventure through the local aquarium. It’s the perfect “read-to-me” bedtime story for littles but also a good early reader for slightly bigger kids who are practising with tougher material. Even 10.5-year-old Miss Q thought it was an awesome story and asked to keep the book in her book shelf. There’s some great repetition throughout the story, creating the perfect opportunity for the reader and listener to work together to really bring the story to life and dinosaur enthusiasts will love references to new dinos.
How much is it? Hardcover, $21.95; paperback, $15.95. Caroline’s books are available in Canada, U.S. U.K. and Australia via Amazon or major booksellers.

WHAT IS IT? Something you Want/To Gift Tags — from Abbotsford, British Columbia!

And the teether (with untreated wood that’s safe for baby’s mouth) is not only pretty but follows Health Canada regulations. Also the silicone bib is amazing for easy cleanup. The bowl has a solid suction which helps keep meals in place and the soft flexible spoon makes learning to eat fun and safe. Also love love LOVE the dusty rose colour. A great gift for toddler moms. The silicone pacifier was a huge hit for my little teether.”

WHAT IS IT? Momma Fox Youth Apron — from Caesarea, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Woodsy sells a lot of really unique giftables (you’ll see another great gift idea from the same shop in the Grownups & Grandparents section) and we thought this apron was just so darn cute! It’s sized to work best for kids from about age 4 through 8, though you can see Miss Q at age 10 was still able to put it on no problem. The print is adorable and the fabric has a nice weight to it.
How much is it? $24. Use ANDREA10 to get 10% off your purchase; valid until Dec 31, 2021. Free shipping in Canada for orders $100+.

WHAT IS IT? Bow Hair Elastic & Kokom Scrunchies — from Gatineau, Quebec!
Why do we love it? When I put a call out for youth entrepreneurs, Kokom Scrunchies came up on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, so I just knew I had to get my hands on some of these scrunchies! And I get the hype — the colours are vibrant and knowing that you’re part of an Indigenous girl’s success is pretty awesome. The Bow Hair Tie is soooo cute and the perfect foray into scrunchie-land for toddlers, and although the scrunchies themselves will work for any age group, I put them here because overall the elastic size is a bit smaller than the other scrunchies you’ll find in my gift guide, so they’re perhaps better suited to less/thinner hair. Kokom Scrunchies is all about giving back and uplifting other women girls and youth, and every Sunday on social media, it highlights someone who is doing great things in the world.
How much is it? $4 each for bows; $10 each for scrunchies. It’s generally $2 shipping for standard mail.

WHAT IS IT? The Money Book
Why do we love it? “The Money Book: How Animals Learn to Count Money” from author Anita VanBrackle, Ed.D, is a great read-to-me book teaching early financial literacy in a fun way. Random coins start showing up in a forest full of animals and they wonder what the heck they are. Not only do they learn what human currency is, but they also work together to sort and assign value to each coin as the story unfolds. And, eventually, the animals make their way to a store to actually buy things with this new-found treasure!
How much is it? $23.95 (softcover); $33.95 (hardcover); $3.99 (eBook).

WHAT IS IT? Sony Pictures Entertainment Blu-ray collections
Why do we love it? I used to love when someone gifted my kids an entire collection of books or movies so they could just binge it right out of the gate. And between Hotel Transylvania’s three-movie collection and both Peter Rabbit movies that are out on Blu-ray, you’ve got two options that are perfect for the whole family — but especially littles who you want to keep bubbled up in wholesome viewing. My kids absolutely loved the entire Hotel Transylvania collection (two of which we saw in theatres…remember going to the movies??!) and Peter Rabiit is just the sweetest…with just the tiniest bit of mischief.
How much is it? Estimated retail price of each Blu-ray DVD ranges from $19.99-24.99. Available at retailers across the country in digital, Blu-ray and DVD.

WHAT IS IT? Bamboo Long Sleeve Sleep Suit — from Vancouver, British Columbia!
Why do we love it? OK, OK, OK — this sleep suit is in the baby and toddler section but you need to know right off the hop that it goes all the way up to size 6-8! My kids absolutely LOVED their sleep bags and knowing that I could have transitioned them into a sleep suit like this — with legs! — until they were bigger kids would have made me so incredibly happy. This is a 2.5 TOG warmth rating, which is what we always used on our kids during the winter months — no blankets required! And the best part about this sleep suit is that the cuffs at the foot allow your baby’s feet to be exposed or all tucked in. And, yes, it’s designed with parents in mind who are still doing middle-of-the-night diaper changes — not to worry. This is a stellar price for a product like this!
How much is it? Raglan Bamboo Long Sleeve Sleep Suit 2.5 TOG (Mama Dearest pattern), $65. Free shipping on orders over $125 in Canada and the USA.

WHAT IS IT? Maternity & nursing pillow
Why do we love it? Medela is the brand I trusted when it came to All Things Nursing, and I only wish I’d had a pillow like this when I was pregnant because I still configure my pillows like this — even to this day. My mom tester writes: “This pillow conforms well to your body, whether you’re in a nursing position or sleeping position. The unique shape of the Medela Maternity & Nursing Pillow is nice while sleeping and the removable cover is a helpful feature, plus it offers quite a bit of arm and elbow support when nursing.

WHAT IS IT? BRUSHALOT Tooth Fairy Kit — from Hamilton, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Developed by two parents who wanted to motivate their kids to brush their teeth, Brushalot was born! This cute Tooth Fairy Kit comes with a plush toy to keep newly lost teeth safe (there’s a pocket on one side for your child’s tooth and one on the other side for money), a nightlight that glows “Brushalot blue” to let the Tooth Fairy know a tooth is ready to be picked up, and a hardcover storybook. The story is set in the magical kingdom of Brushalot and a place called the Pearly White City where the Tooth Fairy lives with her heroic brother Sir Brushalot, his trusty sidekick Incisor, General Floss and more friends. It’s packaged really nicely and I know my kids would have gotten a big kick out of this when they were losing their first few teeth. The company provides an annual donation to Operation Smile.

WHAT IS IT? Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn 3-in-1 On-The-Go-Camper
Why do we love it? From our tester with her one-year-old: “This little toy keeps my little one occupied and busy. The little camper comes with a fishing rod, little s’mores set and some other camping gear. It has a handle and wheels so your toddler can push and stand as they learn to walk making this toy functional and practical. Bright colours and sounds make this a great choice for your little outdoorsy babe!” Check out Mattel’s Citizenship Report where the company outlines its sustainability goals, such as using 100% recycled, recyclable or bio-based plastic in its products and packaging by 2030. Mattel has also launched Mattel PlayBack, a toy-takeback program that will enable families to extend the life of their Mattel toys once they are finished playing with them. WHAT IS IT? Peppa Convert & Go Motorhome
Why do we love it? This year’s guide would have felt incomplete without some Peppa Pig in it, and this convertible motorhome is HELLA cool. This is the kind of toy that would get me down on the floor playing, too. Go on an imaginary holiday with Peppa Pig and her family in this super-fun vehicle that converts to a multi-level RV playset, creating opportunities for exciting 2-in-1 play. The set includes four Pig family figures and 13 themed accessories, including a movable kitchen, campfire and even a toilet — all of which can be stored inside the motorhome for on-the-go play. There’s more conversion awaiting with a pool that turns into a table, a canopy that lifts to make room for a hammock, pull-down bunk beds, an oven that opens, and both sounds and music from the Peppa Pig show. WHAT IS IT? Play-Doh
Why do we love it? I love the newest Play-Doh sets sooooo much — the Grill N Stamp BBQ Playset (pictured right) has a really neat low-mess ink pad hidden inside the toy grill cover that really stamps charcoal-coloured “sear” marks right on your child’s pretend hotdogs and hamburgers. Make Play-Doh tomatoes and mushrooms, add them to the included skewer and pop it on the barbie. With the Rise N Surprise Cake Playset (pictured left), your little baker can make their pretend cakes rise before their very eyes! Create cool cakes by filling the hollow centre with pretend sprinkles or a second colour, pipe pretend frosting, mix it up using the mixing bowl, mold candies, toppings or cake-topping birthday candle. So fun! See Hasbro’s sustainability commitment noted above.

WHAT IS IT? Ponchies for Kids — from Chatham, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Is it a fleece poncho? Is it a car seat cover? Is it a stroller jacket? YES — it’s all of those things. Ponchies are not only cute but clever. These handmade ponchos come in a variety of colours, patterns and even animal characters (the Tartan Plaid Poncho, left, and Burgundy Bunny Poncho, right, are just two examples) and are designed to keep your little one warm, even if they’re safely strapped into a car seat. Each poncho will last many years for a single child because of the loose shape and adjustable drawstrings at the sides. From our toddler tester’s mom: “This gorgeous homemade cozy little poncho is amazing for cool fall walks and quick trips in the car seat. The poncho is easy to slip over baby’s head and you don’t have to struggle with sleeves. The adorable bunny ears and little tail make this outfit adorable for every occasion. Drawstring cords on each side allow you to adjust the length of the poncho so your baby’s hands can be free and the soft fleece hood keeps baby warm and comfy.”

2021 HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE: Bigger Kids (6+), Tweens & Teens
WHAT IS IT? Unicorn weighted blanket set — from Oakville, Ontario!
Why do we love it? The ZOALA kids weighted Blanket by SAVOIZ is the perfect pint-sized weighted blanket for your little big kid who isn’t quite ready for the heavier 10-pounders that seem to be easier to find in the growing weighted blanket market. Miss Q prefers this 7-pound weight — 3, 5 and 10 lbs. available, too — but it isn’t quite long enough for her nearly 11-year-old frame; she uses it anyway, but it would be perfect for most 6 to 9 year olds. The unicorn print on one side (dinosaur is also available) is complimented by a minky underbelly and it comes with a really soft stuffy and a book.
How much is it? $99. Savoiz is offering my readers a 20% discount code using ANDREA20; available from November 8 to December 15, 2021. Free shipping in the USA and Canada

WHAT IS IT? FUJIFILM Mini Link Smartphone Printer
Why do we love it? This little thing does so, so much! The FUJIFILM Mini Link printer is a compact, interactive wireless printer that lets users print photos instantly on INSTAX mini film — directly from any smartphone or tablet, all through Bluetooth connectivity. It’s pretty intuitive so you probably won’t even need to help your child learn how to use it. In fact, s/he will probably be teaching YOU how it works! And it does so much more than “just” print pictures; using the built-in sketch and editing features, you can add written overlays, filters and frames. You can even print in-game action screenshots from your Nintendo Switch! We’ve barely scratched the surface of what this machine can do, but it’s been a lot of fun testing it out so far.

WHAT IS IT? Kids Ski Package
Why do we love it? We’ve gotten a few of our kids’ school snow suits at Mountain Warehouse, and that’s because they offer good-quality outerwear at exceptionally good prices. And this ski package is the ultimate in savings! Now, keep in mind these are not what we use for skiing — so I can’t speak to whether or not they’d hold up to the demands of wind, cold and action of weekly ski outings — but they have held up wonderfully for winter school and neighbourhood play. This is a sort of choose-your-own-adventure-style snowsuit DIY, where you build the mix-and-match set of your child’s snowy dreams one piece at a time. It includes a jacket, pants, beanie, neck warmer and gloves and you can do it all online and have the set delivered right to your front door. Mountain Warehouse has teamed up with Newlife, the Charity for Disabled Children, who recycle and sell surplus and returned high-street items in their stores across the UK. All profit made by Newlife supports its care services for children and their families in Britain, providing specialist equipment for families in need, free nurse helpline in times of crisis, free Play Therapy Pod toy loans and funding for vital medical research. So far, that has meant 5,055 cartons of product has been diverted from landfill and donated to Newlife.
How much is it? $109.99 (although this set would be $229.98 if each item were purchased separately).

WHAT IS IT? Barbie Extra Doll
Why do we love it? Barbie’s overarching message of You Can Be Anything is deeply entrenched into the new “Extra” dolls. Each Barbie Extra doll rocks their own unique style and encourages all boys and girls to do the same! Barbie Extra inspires kids to dial up their unique self-expression and show them that anyone can be a trendsetter. As someone who is pretty extra herself, I love the wild styles that these Barbies come wearing and the nine-year-old in me would have spent hours styling and re-styling outfits, sharing them among my existing Barbie collection. Miss Q is just on the tail end of her Barbie-loving years, and these Extra dolls definitely renewed her interest. See Mattel’s sustainability commitment noted in the Fisher-Price listings.

You’ll need a couple of hours to put it together but it’ll be worth it when you and your little princess-in-the-making see it in all its glory. If a visit to see the OG castle at Disneyworld is on your bucket list, this might just be the next best thing. Three stories, six rooms, 29 accessories — and the upstairs window of the castle lights up to look like a brilliant fireworks show while music plays. The castle comes with a dining table and chairs, bed, vanity, bathtub, sinks for the bathroom and kitchen, stove, chandelier, and even a sofa that turns into a swing. This is magic-in-the-making. Consider adding a Disney Princess Royal Shimmer doll ($15.99 each) for the most magical holiday morning. I first noted Hasbro’s sustainability commitment in the Little Kids’ section; in short, the company is on target to eliminate virtually all plastic in new product packaging by the end of 2022.

WHAT IS IT? Marvel Spider-Man Web Bolt NERF Blaster Toy
Why do we love it? This here is the answer to your kid who has begged you for a NERF toy but you’re uncomfortable with the idea of toy guns — this is a wrist-mounted “blaster” and uses NERF darts instead of “bullets.” Inspired by everyone’s favourite spidy-hero, the Web Bolt Blaster has a cool design with flexible gold webs on the side that have a stretchy effect. The darts do shoot out pretty quickly, so it’ll be important to reinforce eye safety for indoor and outdoor use. See Hasbro’s sustainability commitment noted above.

WHAT IS IT? Gla’more Doll
Why do we love it? We tested one of these dolls with three 10 year olds and another one with a six year old. The older girls thought the unboxing element was fun and agreed that if they were between five and eight, they would have gone crazy for Gla’more Dolls. Here’s what the six year old’s mom writes: “Violet really liked this toy; it was basically like an LOL doll, with the little accessories in bags within that were fun to open. There is a little light bulb that turns on when you push the ‘bow’ and it includes batteries (unfortunately our batteries were dead!). Even still, it’s a cute idea and the way it’s packaged and opens up to store the accessories was a hit. Also — bonus — the doll we got is actually named ‘Violet’!”

WHAT IS IT? Period swimsuit
Why do we love it? KT by knix is the tween- and teen-focused line from one of my favourite brands, knix. (You can read all about it in my huge knixwear review.) With a tween girl in the house, we have a lot of discussions about preparing just in case she gets her first period at school and we have a pair of KT’s period underwear tucked into her school bag just in case. And when the topic of “how do I go swimming if I have my period and I’m too scared to use a tampon” came up, I was thrilled to be able to confidently point her in the direction of KT by knix yet again. The brand’s youth line of swimwear with built-in pads is just the thing younger girls and women need as an option. Miss Q loves this fun lemon print, and we used the size guide to select her size online and it fits well, with a bit of room to grow. Knix created leakproof underwear to be a safe and sustainable alternative to your usual single-use pad and tampon monthly routine. It also spearheads a “Positive Returns Initiative,” which takes returned, unused bras and donates them to women’s shelters across North America — more than 35,000 bras were donated in 2020 alone.

WHAT IS IT? Tobi 2 Robot smartwatch
Why do we love it? We included the original Tobi smartwatch in last year’s gift guide and couldn’t resist adding the reimagined version. WHAT IS IT? Pixicade
Why do we love it? Pixicade a small public school teacher and girl scout troop leader co-created and owned brand whose core team is half-Canadian (Winnipeg, MB; Kitchener-Waterloo, ON) and half-American. Our seven-year-old kid tester had a blast with this create-your-own video games experiential gift: “This was super cool! Full disclosure, our iPad is very very old (2009) so it doesn’t allow us to download apps, which meant I had to use my cell phone — but the games still worked well. An iPad screen would be best though, for more space to play. The app was easy to download, and you do need to sign up for an account; there are a few “parental checks” requiring email validation by the parent to use the app, which is good. There are three different books of games to draw and the great thing is you can draw on regular white paper when you run out of pages in the booklet. It was super neat for our daughter once she figured out what each colour of marker does in the game, so she spent a lot of time designing a few games and learned by trial and error what worked and didn’t work once we took a photo of the drawing and created the game. We haven’t explored all the game types yet, but so far it’s really fun. You are also able to share games with friends, which we haven’t done yet, but is a neat option. I like how there is a big non-screen time component and requires planning and imagination. Also, Pixicade is super portable; if you’re travelling, all you need is blank white paper and the basic marker colours and you can load your drawing into the app and create a game anywhere. I would definitely gift this toy to anyone over the age of six.” The parent company, BitOGenius, donates to The Foundation for Gender Equality to help their safe-house and shelter program.

Decathlon does a great job of making its products look like higher-end “brand name” products that your kids won’t ever mind using in public. WHAT IS IT? MeSquad custom eye glasses — from Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? The Boss Frame (left) and The Gamer Frame (right) shown here feature blue light-filtering lenses but are customizable as prescription or sunglasses, too. Your kid can actually spend time on MeSquad’s site and choose every component of his or her new glasses, right down to the colour of the hinge! It’s a really neat experience that my kids loved. The frames are really best suited for kids 10 and under — The K Man’s 13-year-old face was too big for even the largest frame (and, to be fair, it does suggest a max age of 12). Miss Q, in particular, loved the way her glasses came packaged and, as an avid LEGO fan, appreciated the experience of putting her glasses together. The sides are REALLY bendy, so even kids who are really rough on their things will be challenged to break these.

WHAT IS IT? Florence by Mills beauty products
Why do we love it? Florence by Mills is owned by Millie Bobby Brown! Yes, that Millie Bobby Brown. And if anyone knows teen skin and beauty trends, it’s someone who’s still a teen herself. Millie’s collection of clean, vegan and cruelty-free beauty solutions are not only packaged beautifully but they’re legitimately good-quality, too. We love everything in the LONDON CALLING set (the mascara is perfect for teen lashes since it offers light, feathery coverage; the lip gloss goes on much lighter than it appears in the tube and has a lovely, festive shimmer; and you’ll want to steal the under-eye gel pads for yourself…trust me). The MIND GLOWING PEEL OFF MASK is a really neat iridescent peel-off mask that goes on sticky, dries and peels off 30 minutes later, taking a bunch of skin gunk with it. Your tween or teen will love carrying around the OH WHALE! TINTED LIP BALM in its adorable tube (it’s a sheer, tinted lip balm that contains moisturizing oils like jojoba and avocado). And you can create a fun gift set by adding the fuzzy purple SKINCARE HEADBAND.

Why do we love it? You know when you try to get your teen to leave the house with a coat on because it’s cold outside but they insist they’re fine? Yeah, well, let me introduce you to the oversized Maria Jacket, which is insulated enough for the coldest fall or spring weather we usually get in the Great White North, but would also work well on milder winter days. Lolë is working to improve its impact on the planet. WHAT IS IT? Cricut Joy
Why do we love it? For the crafter-in-the-making, and at a more accessible price point for an introduction to the Cricut family of products, I think the Cricut Joy is one of the best things in my entire gift guide because it’s an activity you can share with your tween or teen but it’s also straightforward enough to operate that your older kid could do this entirely on his or her own. It’s as easy as using an app on your mobile phone. Creating labels, ornaments and decals that look like they were made by a pro is just part of the fun; my favourite thing about the Cricut Joy is making personalized, laser cut-style greeting cards. You’ll need to invest in a few extra things to get the most out of your Cricut Joy (examples pictured above), but it comes with one marker and blade. I also really like the footprint of the Cricut Joy — small enough that your child could keep it on a desk in his or her bedroom and also compact enough to take it to a friend’s house.

WHAT IS IT? Razer Viper Ultimate with Charging Dock
Why do we love it? We have several Razer products down in The K Man’s gaming centre and every single one has taken every single thing my enthusiastic gamer has thrown at them. This wireless mouse, with its own charging dock, means one less cord being fed into the back of the monitor or gaming console, creating a less cluttered space. The concern some gamers have with wireless mice is that they don’t respond at the same lightning-fast speed as their wired counterparts, but that’s simply not the case with the Razer Viper Ultimate. In fact, speed tests show this mouse is 25% faster than other wireless mice, and that’s because it uses leading-edge technology that includes an infrared light beam to register clicks. It has a remarkable 70 hours of battery life and eight programmable buttons to customize your preferred configuration. You can even save five different profiles. WHAT IS IT? Youth & adult sleep sacks
Why do we love it? An Australian company that ships to both Canada and Europe, Sleepwell helped me achieve something I never thought possible — the feeling of being swaddled…as an adult. Oh, and they make kid-sized ones, too, so you can even match all night long! These cocoon-like pods are snug but allow enough flexibility to raise a knee alongside your body if that’s how you sleep. Your arms can go inside for the most mummy-like positioning or you can be arms-free (I go between both throughout the night). I really like that there’s an optional opening at the bottom to stick a foot or two out, which helps if you’re feeling restricted or too warm. Miss Q, who was swaddled for a long, long time, really likes it, too, but as a tall 10-year-old, she’s definitely at the height limit.

WHAT IS IT? Foosketball
Why do we love it? In this tabletop blend of foosball and basketball, two players square off and try to move players around the basketball-like game floor using foosball-like motions, with the added challenge of being co-ordinated enough to pick up balls and shoot them into their opponent’s net. It takes some getting used to but we enjoyed a lot of laughs during the learning curve and, before you know it, we had a family tourny going! I first noted Hasbro’s sustainability commitment in the Little Kids’ section; in short, the company is on target to eliminate virtually all plastic in new product packaging by the end of 2022.

WHAT IS IT? Hungry Hungry Hippos Launchers
Why do we love it? This is the electronic version of one of my all-time fave games from childhood. In this fruity twist on the original, players launch watermelons and try to get it into their hippos’ mouths. Of course, those mouths open and close randomly, so is it skill or luck that will win the game? See Hasbro’s sustainability commitment noted above.

WHAT IS IT? Bulls-Eye Ball
Why do we love it? This game is CRAZY addictive! You know that iconic arcade game skee-ball? Well, this is sort of a miniature take on that super-fun game. But instead of rolling a ball up and over a bump to get points by getting the ball in various circles, you bounce a ball on what can only be described as the world’s tiniest trampoline. It’s electronic and there are five different game plays, each one with a score managed automatically as you play. Honestly, out of all the games we tested for this year’s guide, this earned the highest marks from every member of my family. See Hasbro’s sustainability commitment noted above.
How much is it? $31.99.

WHAT IS IT? Jabuka — from Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Move over, Scrabble — there’s a new word game in town. And this one turns letters on their heads. Literally. It’s JABUKA! This game took us some fine-tuning to learn because at first it feels chaotic since the idea of “taking turns” like you do with traditional board games is sort of thrown out the window. But once you get the hang of just going for it, bound by some loose rules of the game, it’s a lot of fun to make, steal and shout your way to the finish line — making words by sometimes turning the letters to the side or upside down to see a new letter and spell more words. Game pieces are made of recycled wood.

WHAT IS IT? Matching Lazypants — from Montreal, Quebec!
Why do we love it? We can never get enough of Lazypants in this house, and I’m still just as ga-ga for the Ultra-Soft Set as I was in last year’s holiday gift guide, plus Lazypants now has men’s sizes, which means 75% of my household can match! (Hopefully they’ll offer an XXL size in men’s soon and we can up this to 100%.) Miss Q has been wearing her one of her Lazypants bottoms since she was six and refuses to accept that she’s grown out of them; they’ve been put through the ringer with that kid and have stood the test of time — including hundreds of washes at this point. Lazypants gets its cotton from organic fair-trade sources and makes sure to employ workers under enforced ethical standards.

WHAT IS IT? Matching PJ Salvage jammies
Why do we love it? When I reach for PJs, my No. 1 choice is always a fresh pair of PJ Salvage in my jammie drawer. I’m not even a little embarrassed to tell you that many of the styles are appropriate for loungewear and I’ve left the house in them, too. (Go, suburbia!) Miss Q and I have done our matchy-matchy thing in PJ Salvage for years and this is the last year she’ll fit into the kids’ sizes, so we had to squeeze this look into the gift guide! With the brand’s “Cozy” ethos, it aligns with UNSDG #3 Good Health & Wellbeing. And with a focus on using more preferred fibres in its collections (certified recycled and alternate fibres), PJ Salvage is making a greater commitment to sustainability. (Here is a link with more info.) Another piece of sustainability is fair labour and gender equality. As a female-focused brand, PJ Salvage aligns with UNSDG #5 – Gender Equality and is focusing on products made in Certified Women-Owned factories. (Here is a link with more info.)

2021 HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE: Awesome Subscriptions
WHAT IS IT? 6-Month Gift Sock Subscription — from Edmonton, Alberta!
Why do we love it? I’ve wanted to include a sock subscription in previous gift guides, but had never found a company that sent both interesting and good-quality socks. Although Urban Drawer doesn’t have an option for larger feet — their women’s size tops out at 10 and men’s at 12 — I still wanted to include Urban Drawer’s gift subscription since y’all aren’t freaks of nature like my own family. And these socks met the interesting and quality criteria I’ve been looking to feature. On top of that, every year, Urban Drawer donates warm socks to Hope Mission.

WHAT IS IT? Goldminds Mindfulness Membership for kids — from Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Goldminds is a first-of-it’s-kind mindfulness membership for kids (most suitable for ages 4-10). During these weekly live and on-demand virtual classes, kids will work with a facilitator to learn mindfulness in an age-appropriate way and a calm, supportive environment that will help foster an appreciation for introducing this practise into their lives long-term. From lessons rooted in self-love and processing emotions, Miss Q has tried a few of these classes and finds them soooo relaxing. This is a confidence-boosting, resilience-building, positivity-centric “workshop” designed to make kids feel safe to explore what’s going on in their hearts and minds. There may be opportunities to draw or write, stretch and move or simply lie back and close their eyes for guided meditations to prepare them for bedtime. One of the things I love most about Goldminds is that it has a scholarship program where it helps underprivileged families by providing free programs for their kids!
How much is it? Your first class is always free! Individual classes can be accessed using a 10-class pack for $130, and Club Goldminds with unlimited access to virtual classes is $50 per month. ANDREA30 will get you 30% off any mindfulness class, class pack, or membership; valid now until January 3, 2022. (Contest winner will get 3 months of FREE access to Club Goldminds, which includes unlimited access to weekly live virtual classes and unlimited access to on-demand mindfulness classes — a $150 value.)

WHAT IS IT? Carnivore Club subscription — from Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Carnivore Club favours and does its absolute best to find artisans who purchase and/or raise ethically treated animals, employ humane slaughtering practices and use locally sourced ingredients. And having tried both the Classic and Snack boxes, I can tell you — as a certified meat-lover — that this comes through in every product in the box. Each box comes with four to six different carnivorous products, so the main difference between the boxes is the size and range of those products. For example, the Classic Box will net you handcrafted salamis, prosciuttos and bacon, while the Snack Box contains more on-the-go things like jerky and meat sticks. We agreed that these were some of the most delicious and highest-quality meat products we’d ever sampled and would be delighted to receive either box as a gift.
How much is it? The Perfect Classic Box is $54.99 with subscription; the smaller Snack Box is $39.99 with subscription. Subscription boxes ship for free. Use ANDREA20 for 20% off your first Classic or Snack subscription box (excludes pre-paid gifts, and marketplace items) — no expiry date.

WHAT IS IT? Acre75 Gathered subscription box — from Perth County, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Everything in the beautifully curated Acre75 Gathered box is made by businesses located in small Canadian towns with populations of less than 30,000. From home goods to food products, each box supports at least six makers from small communities, coast-to-coast; and $1 from each order is donated to rural mental health initiatives. I think my favourite thing in the fall box we tried was a canvas planter from Sydney, Nova Scotia (sold on its own for $34!). All of Acre75’s packaging is recyclable (the company uses kraft paper boxes with biodegradable packaging tape). And since all of the makers Acre75 works with are within Canada, none of its products travel from overseas.
How much is it? $69.95 plus shipping ($12.99 flat-rate shipping; subject to increase). Please note that subscriptions reopen on December 15 for the holiday box and Acre75 currently has a wait list that people can join to be notified on the 15th. WHAT IS IT? One-year BritBox streaming subscription
Why do we love it? If you grew up watching British TV shows thanks to your parents (or, in my case, grandparents), you’re going to LOVE BritBox. We have been devouring shows like MI-5 and the British version of House of Cards and I’m ecstatic about catching up on Downton Abbey. You can binge on everything from classic shows to exclusive new series, special live events, premieres, current affairs and — yes — soaps, too! Many streaming same day as the UK. There are a number of genres included in this streaming service created by the BBC and ITV, and when you gift a full year’s subscription, you pay for only 10 months.

WHAT IS IT? Curiosity Box subscription — from Ingersoll, Ontario!
Why do we love it? I’ve known Curiosity Box from its very beginnings and it’s been incredible to watch it evolve and expand over the years. These thoughtfully created boxes are, at their core, craft-centric but are, in fact, so much more. Each box includes developmentally-appropriate learning activities, novelties and small tinker toys, and a small STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) project. Our testers loved the Curiosity Boxes for their age groups: “The box for older kids has basically the same crafts as the younger box, only there are some additional items like white glue and more intricate crafts. I liked how the box for 2-4 year olds (yellow box) didn’t have glue and was mostly peel and stick stickers, which our younger child handled without any supervision (which is nice). She just turned 5 and didn’t feel like the crafts were too easy/for babies. The boxes came with some toys like a squishy pumpkin and fall-themed erasers, which the girls loved. The instructions were easy to follow, with a parent’s help, and the crafts were all packaged individually within each box, which was helpful.”
How much is it? Craft box for 2-4 year olds, $34.95; craft box for 5-7 year olds, $34.95; craft box for 8+, $37.95. Free shipping. Use andrea5off for $5 off your first order, which should already applied using the link below.

WHAT IS IT? Purdys chocolate subscription — from Vancouver, British Columbia!
Why do we love it? More chocolate? YES! YOU CANNOT HAVE ENOUGH CHOCOLATE, PEOPLE! Plus, this is a chocolate subscription — and that’s different than anything else in my holiday gift guide. So there. Who wouldn’t want new chocolate bundles showing up at their door every month? This is the gift that keeps delivering sweet somethings to your someone special. Purdys has been around since 1907 and back in the olden days when I used to take my kids to shopping malls, we would often stop by the Purdys shop for a treat. Ahhhh, The Before Times. A three-month subscription will ultimately deliver Himalayan Pink Salt Caramels (18 pc), Milk & Dark Chocolate Classics Gift Box (25 pc), and Mini Hedgehogs (10 pc).

2021 HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE: Grownups & Grandparents
WHAT IS IT? Vinovation O2 Wine Aerator — from Brampton, Ontario!
Why do we love it? I have never so passionately tested anything this much for any of my gift guides over the years as I have the O2 Wine Aerator. And, as a die-hard red wine connoisseur, I knew that I needed to branch out in the testing process to include those who enjoy red wine but aren’t as fanatical about it as I am. So, the first time I tried it, I enlisted my aunt and my dad and we embarked on a three-bottle before-and-after taste test. The bottles ranged in price from $15 to $30 — a pinot noir, a cabernet sauvignon and a zinfandel — and I intentionally kept them on the inexpensive side because I wanted to see what this aerator could do within that price point. My dad was convinced he’d never be able to tell the difference and my aunt wasn’t much more confident. But the difference was clear — after five to 10 minutes, the “afters” were smoother, bolder and just better. All four of us in the trial noticed, and the overwhelming feedback was that it turned inexpensive bottles of wine into those that tasted higher end. We’ve since used the O2 Wine Aerator on white wine as well, and it makes a difference but not nearly as discernably as it does with red; we’ve also tried it with pricier bottles of red, like Stag’s Leap and — wowee! — I already loved this wine but it really amped up the WOW-factor. We have been double-aerating our wine for at least a decade, and this not only replaces that method but also does a superior job in bringing out flavour profiles and depth in every single bottle. This should be on every wine lovers list this year!

WHAT IS IT? 5am Lemon gift box — from Markham, Ontario!
Why do we love it? I told you I was obsessed! You saw these gift boxes featured in the teen section, so here I wanted to show you more of the custom details like the photo flaps you can have included (with stickies to post them on an office wall, for example). I’m here to tell you that when my husband received the customized box I created for him, he was blown away. I walked through the process myself, adding family photos to the box flaps, writing a nice note inside and choosing each gift that I knew he would love (like a meat rub, body butter and some ceramic coasters for our bar cart). After your recipient is finished with the box, the photos can be torn out thanks to perforated edges and kept somewhere special using the sticky-tabs that are included in the box. Overall, it’s just a really thoughtfully created gift idea that extends well beyond the holiday season.
How much is it? $14.50 per box plus cost of gifts plus flat-rate shipping of $7.50 per box across Canada. Use code AndreaFS for free shipping in Canada; expires Dec. 31, 2021.

WHAT IS IT? Ovalware pour-over coffee maker & glassware
Why do we love it? If you read my recent pour-over coffee post, you know all about Big B’s and my new obsession. And you’ll also know that Ovalware’s products came out on top in our testing process. We use this pour-over system and double-walled glassware every day, without fail. If you have a hardcore coffee lover on this year’s list, these are what you’re getting. K? Done. The reason Ovalware introduced the Stainless Steel Coffee Filter and all the other brewing equipment is so that people can enjoy coffee at home and stop using one-time-use products such as paper cups, paper filters, etc. When paired with fair-trade beans, this is the ultimate in sustainability!

WHAT IS IT? Grandma & Me: In The Kitchen
Why do we love it? Wait a sec, you’re thinking right about now…isn’t this the GROWNUPS section of the gift guide? Why, yes. Yes, it is. But it’s also dedicated to grandparents and that’s why you’re seeing this book here instead of the kids’ section. Although I wish this also came in “Nana” and “Grammy” options, everyone who’s a grandma and isn’t called “Grandma” will understand — trust me. Because this lovely multigenerational activity kit is exactly the kind of thing my own Granny and I would have absolutely loved doing when I was a little girl. I spent a lot of time in the kitchen with her and many of my fondest childhood memories are wrapped up in those moments. I just wish I’d had something like this to provide a written testimony of it all. This “do-it-together” set comes with a read-aloud cooking-inspired story book, an activity recipe journal, a keepsake potholder for Grandma and child-sized apron for her grandchild. The kit also comes with fabric paint to personalize the potholder and apron! Through the Roots of Peace organization, the company plants two trees for every one used in the manufacturing of its books.

WHAT IS IT? Vintage & unique finds — from Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? This mom-of-three and her sons created Finds By Fitz initially as a pandemic-induced activity to do together — go off on vintage-hunting adventures, find unique treasures and sell them through Instagram. It flourished and instead of just being a neat family project, it also became an important lesson on and participation in sustainability — reselling vintage goods so they don’t end up in landfill. Not everything is “pre-loved.” This fun little cat spoon was one of three available for just $5 and came new, in packaging perfect for gift-giving. My advice is this: if you see something for yourself or someone on your list that you love, snap it up right away — their stuff doesn’t last long!

WHAT IS IT? Lawson Grey Foldable Fanny Pack
Why do we love it? In the teen section, I told you more about Trendhim’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact. (You can read more about it in the chakra bracelet listing.) And here’s another example — this fanny pack is made from recycled PET, the most recycled plastic in the world. I love that it folds into itself into a very compact footprint, making it excellent for travel, and it’s one of the more “masculine” (and I use quotation marks around that intentionally because it’s merely a subjective label) and minimalist fanny packs I’ve seen. Both my husband and teenage boy said they’d happily wear it in public, and they’re both pretty picky. I love a themed but practical gift, so if you’re planning to take someone on a trip as a holiday gift, why not package up the plane or activity tickets into this fanny pack and give them all together?

WHAT IS IT? BC Bonacure holiday gift set
Why do we love it? Whether your hair needs a hyaluronic moisture kick or you need a way to keep your salon-coloured hair in check, the BC Bonacure sets from Shwarzkopf offer well-priced trios packaged for gift giving. Inspired by skin-care, the products are designed to treat different hair types, well…differently. The Hyaluronic Moisture Kick Set and the pH4.5 Color Freeze Rich Set each include a Micellar Shampoo, Conditioner and Treatment. Our tester has colour-treated hair and loved the Color Freeze Rich Set, writing: “When using other shampoos, my hair tends to get tangled and feel dry and stripped. This shampoo left my hair manageable and feeling clean but not stripped. The conditioner left my hair feeling silky and tangle-free with no residue or coating. The mask is nice and thick and I didn’t have to use a lot to distribute through my really thick, curly hair. My hair is not as frizzy when it dries, it looks softer and my colour has stayed with no yellowing. Overall, my hair definitely looks better after using this set for a couple of weeks and I would definitely buy it again.”

Then you need to get shopping at Blue Rocket Gifts. Punny cards, unique giftables and things-that’ll-make-you-go-hmmm are the specialty here. WHAT IS IT? FUJIFILM Printlife Personalized Socks
Why do we love it? It will come as no surprise after seeing so many personalized items in this and previous gift guides that I am a huge fan of custom gifts. Are photo socks a bit gimmicky? Sure. But they’re so different and for hard-to-buy-for people, different is a good thing. Big B loves pink and I can’t wait to gift these to him this year (shhhh…don’t tell!) — especially since they’re actually big enough for his enormous feet! The price is right for something you can personalize and they’ll definitely put a smile on the recipient’s face.

WHAT IS IT? Shave soap & magnesium cream — from Sackville, New Brunswick!
Why do we love it? I shared more about the homesteaders who created Anointment in the prenatal and infant section of my guide, but the company also makes stuff for adults, too! Big B absolutely loves the Shave Soap — having only used creams and lather in the past, this has been a new but welcome new product in his shaving routine. I’m in love with the Relieve & Relax Magnesium and Arnica Lotion; I’ve been using Arnica gel for more than two decades to treat bruises, but I’m newer to the magnesium game (unless you count Epsom salt baths). And, let me tell you, magnesium has been a game-changer for me at nighttime for successful sleep. So combining these two powerful ingredients and using the cream on my feet as Anointment suggests has really helped soothe my chronic foot pain. It can be used elsewhere on the body, too — this is just where I’ve started. Using certified organic ingredients wherever possible, this soon-to-be-B Corp also donates to organizations commited to food security and women’s/reproductive health.
How much is it? Shave Soap, $7.99; Relieve & Relax Magnesium and Arnica Lotion, $39.99. You’ll get 10% off purchases over $25 with code MOMMY10, from November 15 to December 15, 2021. Free shipping in Canada on orders over $49. Free shipping in the US on orders over $75.

WHAT IS IT? Running on Coffee & Dry Shampoo T-shirt — from St. Catharines, Ontario!

Why do we love it? The Cool Mom Studio professionally screen-prints all of her garments — you won’t find any vinyl here, and that means no peeling or cracking. Express your own personal motherhood and womanhood feels with a variety of Ts, sweatshirts and hoodies, like this “Running on Coffee & Dry Shampoo” one that could only be made more perfect for me if it included something about a messy bun. The T fits well, has sleeves perfect for rolling and a length perfect for longer torsos or French tucks. The Cool Mom Studio uses Bella + Canvas T-shirts, and they are sooooo soft and comfy.

WHAT IS IT? Bio-Oil Body Lotion
Why do we love it? This makes a great stocking stuffer for the person who loves moisturized skin but hates sticky hands or product that lingers too long on skin’s surface. I’ve been using Bio-Oil products for many, many years and written about Bio-Oil benefits before because the stuff is so good. This particular product has a unique combination of ultralight yet high oils (including plant oils such as Calendula extract, Rosehip Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Shea Oil plus Vitamins E and F) is made possible by the company’s pioneering “Shake Before Use” formulation. Bio-Oil’s manufacturer has plans to be net-carbon-zero by 2025. At the moment, the manufacturing plant is being renovated to run exclusively on solar power. None of its products and raw materials are tested on animals, and its packaging is made with only sustainably sourced materials.

I hope to one day own a Kulig original, but in the meantime, these puzzles are a wonderful (and inexpensive) way to bring her beautiful work into your home.

WHAT IS IT? Sun Bum Beach Formula Shampoo & Conditioner
Why do we love it? Are you ready for this? Sun Bum products are dermatologist- and pediatrician-tested, plant-based, pH balanced, reef-safe, vegan, cruelty-free, hypoallergenic, and free of Parabens, phthalates, gluten, sulphates, dyes, preservatives, silicone, petroleum/petrolatum, talc, artificial fragrances, formaldehyde, glycol, mineral oil and propylene glycol. Phew — big list, I know. But even better than that? I love Sun Bum hair products because they have built-in UV shields that protect my hair from sun damage and they smell like a tropical vacation. This shampoo and conditioner left my unruly locks nicely detangled and very soft. Approved!

WHAT IS IT? Lolë Piper Rain Jacket — from Montreal, Quebec!

Why do we love it? This isn’t just any rain jacket — it’s a packable rain jacket. In fact, it packs up into a backpack, easily making it one of the most convenient packable jackets I’ve ever owned. I also love the fit and details on this jacket, with fashionable “pullies” that make the hood, waist and sleeves adjustable. Perhaps my favourite thing about it is that it looks and wears more like a cotton trench coat than a seam-sealed waterproof jacket. As I mentioned in the teen section, Lolë is working to improve its impact on the planet, and the lining of this Piper Rain Jacket is made from 100% polyester-recycled fibres.

WHAT IS IT? Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Power Strip

Like any good power bar, it also offers certified surge protection, and with the free Kasa Smart app, you can remotely control and schedule any of its connected devices through your mobile. It’s even compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant. Sure, it may not be the most exciting thing under the tree but when it comes to gifts that people can really use, this is certainly a good one.

WHAT IS IT? Personalized & clever necklaces — from Caledon, Ontario!
Why do we love it? It’s easy to find stuff for “Grandmas” but how about Omas and Nanas and Grannies and Grammies and Glamas? It’s a lot harder and that’s why custom-made jewelry is such a smart move for gifting. We love the simplicity of Hand Stamped By Jenn’s personalized necklaces that allow you to create something uniquely yours. We also like Jenn’s cheeky sense of humour and proud feminist vibe on her pre-made necklaces — my personal favourite is “you’re” — and all my grammar-nerd readers will appreciate this as much as I do, I’m sure! Jenn uses recycled or upcycled materials for shipping, and Canadian-sourced materials whenever possible.
How much is it? $20 for “you’re” and $22 for Grammy/Nana/Granny/etc. custom necklaces plus flat-rate shipping.

WHAT IS IT? Aster & Grace handmade earrings — from Burlington, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Not only do I love that these polymer clay earrings are the creative, handmade vision of an Ontario youth entrepreneur, but I also love how lightweight they are, making them easy to wear all day — despite their strong presence. The Aster & Grace design aesthetic is art-deco-meets-’60s-mod and this talented young artist’s style is truly beyond her years.

WHAT IS IT? Lemonjarz — from Vancouver, British Columbia!
Why do we love it? These are so pretty, your gift recipient might never do anything other that display them in their kitchen or home bar! But they do happen to be delicious in cold (and especially hot) water plus a variety of drinks and cocktails. Created by a nutritionist who advocates for good self-care, LEMONJARZ slices were created to encourage more water consumption. They just so happen to be really pretty, too. LEMONJARZ aims to reduce as much waste as possible in its production and packaging efforts.

WHAT IS IT? Dr. Liza shoes — from Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Do you ever just pick up a pair of shoes and feel the craftsmanship? Yeah, that’s what it’s like when you first hold a pair of Dr. Liza’s designed-in-Canada, made-in-Brazil shoes in your hands. I have wide feet that are riddled with issues like bunions and hypermobile joints, both of which cause chronic pain in my toes, ankles and along my footbed; I normally have to order size 9 or 10 shoes to account for the extra space they need to swell or accommodate the extra width I need — but not with Dr. Liza’s shoes. I used her very easy “find your size” tool and ordered an 8. Nervously, because the only brand I have ever worn an 8 in is UGG boots! But, guess what? They fit perfectly. No, they’re not the cheapest pair of shoes in my closet — nor are they the most expensive — but they sure are the most comfortable (especially for heels!). Each pair of her shoes, boots, sandals and slippers has a built-in orthotic insole, shock-absorbing platform, rocker sole to alleviate metatarsal pressure (and I can tell you firsthand, this is LEGIT!), a non-skid rubber outsole and a deep heel cup to remedy pronation. The difference I feel walking around in these sandals compared to virtually any other heel I’ve worn in my entire life is nothing short of mind-blowing. Add to that start-to-finish sustainable manufacturing and everything about these is a winner.
How much is it? Sandals, $495. Use the code HOLIDAY40 for 40% off from Nov 17, 2021 to Jan 2, 2022. Free shipping across Canada with orders of $250 or more.

WHAT IS IT? Cool stuff from Maple & Love — from Niagara, Ontario!
Why do we love it? I keep these beautifully crafted leather valet trays (pictured here in snake and ivory) on my bedside table for jewelry and they’re the perfect size for my Apple Watch, rings and bracelets at the end of the day — plus the minimalist, contemporary design is the perfect complement to my decor. If you’ve never owned a piece of jewelry that acts as an essential oil diffuser, it’s a really nice way to carry around your favourite scent all day, and the black lava stones in this bracelet mean that you won’t get any colour transfer from your clothing onto the beads. Maple & Love’s candles are super, super cool and this fuschia life-sized hand is just one of them. Gotta give a gift to the person who has everything? Well, I bet they don’t have a”Rock On” hand candle.
How much is it? Leather Valet Tray (5×5″), $58; Rutilated Quartz and Rose Gold Essential Oil Diffuser Bracelet, $30; Rock On Beeswax Candle, $60. Free shipping throughout Canada and the USA.

WHAT IS IT? Just The Goods facial & body-care products — from Winnipeg, Manitoba!
Why do we love it? If you think pink grapefruit and black pepper don’t go together, I’m here to tell you that you’re wrong. And you should order Just The Goods’ vegan body butter in this scent as soon as possible. And not just because it smells glorious but because it’s an outstandingly low price for what has become my most cherished body butter of all time. I’d previously never found one that compared to a brand I could only get in the USA at more than $20 a jar (and with the conversion, shipping and random fees, you Canadians know that ends up being four times more by the time it gets here!), so this has been a pretty thrilling discovery. For anyone who likes a good facial steamer, Just The Goods’ petal, leaf, root. line has a lovely one that you could pair with spa-like accessories for a thoughtful gift of self-care. All Just the Goods products are free from petrochemical ingredients and plastic-free packaging options are available. It also offers sample sizes of almost every product. Just the Goods makes contributions to groups that work toward reconciliation and decolonization; please see the company’s previous listing for more details.

WHAT IS IT? YAE Organic Teas — from Ottawa, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Who doesn’t love a nice cuppa on a cold winter’s day? YAE Organic Tea makes handcrafted herbal teas (many specifically for women) rooted in the owner’s background as a chemist. The Christmas T(r)EA — see what they did there? — blends real bits of candy cane with black tea, peppermint, chamomile, strawberry leaves and cornflower petals. Both come in either a loose-leaf option or teabags. I personally swoon for the Ayurvedic Balance Blend, though, since I’m in dire need of refocusing and restoring my internal order. Whether it’s actually helping me achieve equilibrium has yet to be determined but I genuinely love the flavour, made up of peppermint, spearmint, honeybush, ginger, chamomile, hibiscus, calendula, rose and osmanthus.
How much is it? The Christmas T(r)EA, $9.99; Ayurvedic Balance Blend, $18.99. Use Andrea20 for a 20% discount up until December 24, 2021. Flat $5 shipping across Canada and $7 shipping across the US.

WHAT IS IT? Iremia Skincare bundle — from Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Iremia (meaning “calm”) is a small-batch, natural skincare line specifically formulated for sensitive skin. Each product is consciously created to serve specific and ideally multiple purposes, streamlining your routine. Iremia is conscious about its impact on the environment, and strives to decrease the amount of waste it uses in its process. Never tested on animals, the first thing you’ll notice when you use any Iremia product is the lack of added fragrances; if you or your gift recipient isn’t used to natural, fragrance-free skincare, this can be a bit jarring at first, but eliminating fragrances can be key for those with highly reactive sensitive skin. My skin is only somewhat reactive and can typically tolerate a variety of products, but I loved testing these. The facial oil (blended with 11 natural botanical oils) is absolutely beautiful and I found The Soothing Lotion ideal for morning and The Protective Cream best for night — though I can see the latter becoming a staple product in my winter skincare routine, morning and night, especially as skiing gets underway and my skin inevitably dries out. I often find that products made for sensitive skin don’t also address dry, aging skin concerns, or that ultra-moisturizing products don’t cause breakfouts — and this is where Iremia really shines for me. These are some of the most hydrating products I’ve ever used on my face and yet even from day one, they didn’t make me break out — I just had an instant, dewy glow.
How much is it? Our Saviour Gift Set (which includes The Soothing Lotion, The Restorative Facial Oil and The Protective Cream and comes in a zippered pouch), $181. Free shipping within Canada and USA.

WHAT IS IT? Rockwell Razors gift set — from Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Big B first tried Rockwell Razors thanks to a generous Father’s Day delivery we received from Harry Rosen last year, and to say he was immediately a smitten kitten would be an understatement. He loves a classic, old-skool shave and Rockwell delivers — especially in a set like this that puts all of your loved one’s essential shaving tools together in one spot, creating a display that’ll look great on any bathroom countertop. This razor feels great in-hand, which a nice weight and blades that really do their job. All of the brand’s razors and blades are 100% plastic-free and fully recyclable.

WHAT IS IT? LIVINGbasics™ Digital Touch Screen Air Fryer
Why do we love it? If you’re looking for a standalone air fryer that won’t break the bank and is actually fantastic, we have really enjoyed getting to know the one from ShopperPlus’ private label. You’ll have to get past the spelling errors throughout the enclosed recipe book (it hurt my brain and I wanted to red-line the whole thing), but once you do and you start cooking, those Spelling Bee Queen nightmares will melt away. The 5.8-quart basket is big enough to cook a whole chicken, but not quit big enough to do the entire batch of cheddar biscuits from the recipe book. However, every single thing we’ve made in there has come out wonderfully. Chicken has super-crisp skin on the outside but is ridiculously juicy on the inside; fries are crisped perfection — without using hardly any oil. No matter what we try in there, it comes out better than it does from our regular oven. And it’s a freaking DREAM to clean. You will need a whole lot of countertop real estate to park this bad boy, but most air fryers I’ve seen require the same but cost a whole lot more.
How much is it? $119.99 (but according to the company, it goes on sale often — especially on Black Friday weekend). Free shipping across Canada with orders of $50+.

WHAT IS IT? EATABLE Popcorn — from Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? Popcorn, just for adults? You betcha. This premium popcorn line infuses every blend with wine or spirits. Champagne lovers will rejoice in EATABLE Popcorn’s Pop the Champagne concoction, which sparks little bits of joy with every bite thanks to what must be little bits of pop-rockets throughout the mix. And the Pop the Salt & Tequila has just a hint of citrus that offsets the sweetness of the caramel so perfectly that it made this gal — who generally doesn’t love caramel-flavoured popcorn — eat the whole dang bag. EATABLE’s partnership with rePurpose Global has enabled it to take an important step towards progress, and amplifies the Plastic Neutral impact of its packaging to a global scale. EATABLE donates a percentage of every product purchase to fund the collection of 440 lbs of low-value plastic waste from oceans and landfills every year. Low-value plastic is collected, processed and reused by a social enterprise in Nairobi, Kenya that employs and empowers waste pickers to tackle plastic waste.

WHAT IS IT? Fern & Petal essential oils — from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia!
Why do we love it? Get into the holiday season and then take it with you everywhere you go with the essential oil blends from Fern & Petal and its pretty diffuser bracelet — just be really careful with what you wear beside the white lava beads. Sadly, my new jeans colour-transferred their blue dye and my beautiful white lava beads are no more (long after this pic was taken, obvs). But the good news is that just a couple drops of the candy cane scent on them lasted for two weeks! With every purchase, Fern & Petal donates $1 to plant a tree in Canada.

WHAT IS IT? Artisan chocolate — from Almonte, Ontario!
Why do we love it? I can’t remember where I first tried Hummingbird Chocolate several years ago, but I remember it stopped me in my tracks. You see, I love dark chocolate as much as I love red wine (in fact, together they’d be my death-row meal). I have other, more mainstream chocolate options elsewhere in my gift guide (because what are the holidays without chocolate?) and the fancy stuff ain’t for everyone. But if you’re into handcrafted, truly artisan and award-winning chocolate, this is the listing for you. I’ve tried MANY Hummingbird products over the years, but my three favourites for this holiday season would have to be the Salted Caramels (honestly the deepest, richest caramels in the world), the Hispaniola 70% bar for the hardcore dark chocolate lover, and — be still my heart — the Almond Toffee Bark, which should be illegal…at least for me. Founded by a wife-and-husband duo who are former international aid workers who spent their careers working with farmers in developing countries, Hummingbird Chocolate has a great respect for people who make food — from the ground up. From careful sourcing of quality cacao beans to a deep commitment to the farmers who cultivate the beans, it’s very important to the company that the cacao it sources is done fairly, ethically and sustainably.

WHAT IS IT? Wabanaki Maple gift set — from Tobique First Nation, New Brunswick!
Why do we love it? You may recall that I featured Wabanaki Maple’s barrel-aged whiskey maple syrup in last year’s gift guide. Let me tell you — I used that bottle so sparingly and made every last drop count before it was gone. From pancakes to coffee, this stuff was GOLD. So I was ecstatic that the company not only came out with a gift bundle set this year, but that it also contained two new maple syrups — a barrel-aged bourbon version and a barrel-aged toasted oak version, alongside the whiskey. Holy smokes…I thought nothing could beat the whiskey — until I tried the bourbon. MY WORD. This is a sweet treat for anyone, but you might also want to order a second one for yourself. You’re also supporting a 100% Indigenous- and female-owned small businessand located on Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation).

WHAT IS IT? Behind the Red Door — author from Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? “Behind the Red Door: How Elizabeth Arden’s Legacy Inspired My Coming-of-Age Story in the Beauty Industry” by Louise Claire Johnson is a delightful biography-meets-memoir that provides a fascinating look at Elizabeth Arden’s rise to beauty industry fame from the perspective of a woman — Louise herself — who spent six years in marketing at Elizabeth Arden in Geneva and Manhattan. A century apart, it tells the story of two women who left home to make it big. At a time when women didn’t have the right to vote, Arden became one of the wealthiest self-made women in the world and the first businesswoman to grace the cover of Time magazine. As you read, you’ll see that what began as a project to preserve Arden’s place in history became intertwined with the author’s own coming-of-age story and cultural connection and intersection.

WHAT IS IT? Lip plumping products — from Montreal, Quebec!
Why do we love it? OK, OK….so the products themselves aren’t from Canada, but the company who distributes these Buxom products (and hundreds and hundreds of other beauty brands) is Canadian. So if you’re going to shop online for beauty gifts this season, why not do it through a Canadian retailer like BeautySense.ca? I’ve been wearing Buxom’s White Russian Plumping Lip Gloss for probably eight years. Maybe more. And despite that kind of loyalty, I’d never branched out beyond this brand’s colour or product — because if it ain’t broke, right?! But I’m so glad I finally tried a few other things, like the Buxom PowerPlump Lip Balm, which uses my body chemistry to colour my lips with a subtle, natural tint while it also plumps and moisturizes (it’s become my favourite lip product in a very short period of time). And for the ultimate lippy gift set, The Queen’s Vault Plumping Lip Set — also from Buxom — comes with a full-sized clear collagen-infused lip serum that easily replaced the one I was using from another brand plus five of its best-selling lip polishes. And, guess what? Not a single one is White Russian! So now I have a few more fave shades in my beauty arsenal.
How much is it? Buxom PowerPlump Lip Balm (shade: Big O), $23; Buxom: The Queen’s Vault Plumping Lip Set, $52. Use code ANDREA10 for 10% off site-wide; valid starting November 3, 2021 and expiring January 1, 2022. Free expedited shipping on all orders.

WHAT IS IT? Auraïha gift bundle — from Calgary, Alberta!
Why do we love it? I liked the Glass Face serum right away — because I noticed a difference overnight. I literally woke up with a brighter complexion after using it for the first time the night before. It’s not hydrating enough for me to use on its own without adding moisturizer, but the mixture of squalane, AHA fruit acids, aloe, green tea and cucumber feels great on the skin and really does what it promises. The Naturally Luminous Mist & Set Spray that came with it works best for me under makeup rather than as a makeup setting spray post-application, but it’s also a really lovely mist to spritz on your face midday for a gentle refresh. Sustainability and eco-friendliness lie at the heart of Auraïha’s packaging design and brand, with a commitment to environmentally conscientious packaging and every step of its supply chain considered. All packaging materials are recycled, reusable or zero-waste, plus a commitment to a sophisticated de-inking process for corrugated surfaces. Its labeling ink is non-toxic and water-based, and any adhesives used (such as tape) are biodegradable. Every product in the line is also EWG-verified.

WHAT IS IT? Alpaca goodies — from Prince Edward County, Ontario!
Why do we love it? The alpaca fleece birder set from SHED Chetwyn Farm that I featured in last year’s gift guide got such amazing feedback from so many of you that I wanted to show you some of the other awesome stuff you can find from this cute little alpaca farm in The County for your unique gift-giving needs. Turn any pair of wellies into the softest, coziest rainboots with the Wellington Boot Sock; alpaca socks are where it’s at for warmth without any itch, and these come up nice and high so even if you’re wearing the tallest Hunter boots, you’ll still see lots of the boot sock right up to your knees. I stopped using my Hunter-branded boot socks once I tried these because they don’t get stuck inside when I take my boots off! And I find them warmer even though they take up less room. The alpaca terry mittens feel like you’ve just placed your hands into a warm cloud — seriously, your fingers will thank you. And the “Alpaca-My Bags” gift set makes bundling and wrapping super easy since it’s all done for you; the set comes with an Eric & Christopher alpaca tote and matching tea towel set, plus Chetwyn Farm’s own alpaca wool dryer balls, a delicate laundry detergent for your alpaca and other wool garments, plus — what I think is one of the coolest gift ideas I’ve ever seen for the resident gardener, an alpaca fleece-covered bar of soap, designed to help scrub away the dirt from your hands (it’s also sold separately). All of Chetwyn Farm’s alpaca products are based on sustainable farming and millwork, and ethical fleece-gathering practises.

WHAT IS IT? The Habit Journal — from Toronto, Ontario!

Why do we love it? When your brain is a hamster wheel and you want to get off because it negatively impacts your ability to stay focused and get things done, the Habit Journal might be just what you need. It’s a monthly habit planner, daily journal, monthly habit review and habit tracker. As someone who doesn’t naturally journal in her spare time, what I like about this is how prescriptive it is, and there isn’t a full page of blank space staring you down so the process doesn’t feel overwhelming. WHAT IS IT? Cricut Maker 3
Why do we love it? If you aren’t crafty, you sure will be after you get your hands on Cricut’s new top-of-the-line Maker 3. To see this thing in action is astonishing. The Cricut Maker 3 can expertly cut more than 300 materials (from the most delicate fabric and paper to heavy cardstock, leather and even some woods up to 2.4mm thick) — and it does it twice as fast as previous generations. It can cut up to 12 feet without a mat using a whopping 13 compatible tools to cut, score, write, deboss, engrave and more, giving you the kind of decorative effects you’d otherwise have to order from a specialty shop. Make holiday ornaments, jigsaw puzzles, quilt cut-outs, iron-on transfers for shirts or pillows, custom letterboards (like those big WELCOME signs you see at people’s front doors), personalized glassware, decor items and…for reals…this list is not even close to exhaustive. Since it only comes with enough material for a practice cut, you’ll need to pick up vinyl, transfer tape and various tools to really bring out the most of the Maker 3; keep that in mind if you’re gifting this to someone who’s never owned a Cricut machine before.

WHAT IS IT? Booties from Ketch — from Vancouver, British Columbia!
Why do we love it? Launched last year, Ketch Shoes is the newest chapter for the family-run, Canadian owned footwear distributor Global Shoe Connection. A direct-to-consumer online shoe retailer, Ketch provides exclusive access to a carefully curated selection of well-loved brands known for comfort and style. These booties from Miz Mooz — a brand that makes all of its products in Europe by small, family-owned businesses with experienced artisans — are just one example of some of the beautiful footwear I drooled over when scouring the Ketch Shoes website, and they were just as gorgeous in person. There’s a “wide widths” category on the site, and Ketch features brands like Bueno, Django & Juliette, Casta and Vionic. It even offers free return shipping if something isn’t quite right (less a $5 restocking fee).

WHAT IS IT? Coffee body scrub — from Montreal, Quebec!
Why do we love it? Forget every other body scrub you’ve ever used and buy this one. No, really. You know that instant rush of alertness you get from the first whiff of coffee in the morning? Well, now you can beat your java to the punch while you’re showering. It smells GLORIOUS — thanks to a mix of ground Arabica beans, olive fruit oil, epsom salts, dead sea salts, coconut, essential sweet orange oil and verbena essential oil — but, better still, your skin feels unbelievable after you’re done scrubbing. Apparently it can be used on the face as well, though I admit that I haven’t managed to stop rubbing it all over my body to give it a try. It’s vegan and cruelty-free and Simkha BioCosmetics gives $1 to plant a tree for each product sold, and supports foundations that help single mothers.

WHAT IS IT? Wild & Whimsy scrunchies — from Chelmsford, Ontario!
Why do we love it? More scrunchies? YEP! You really can’t have too many scrunchies and I wanted to share a variety of really different options with you in this year’s guide, like these ones from Wild & Whimsy, which are a “dressy” scrunchy, perfect for special occasions. I love her smaller, velvety scrunchies (and Miss Q is obsessed with these ones, too) but I have to tell you about her XXL-sized scrunchies in luxe fabrics like satin — they’re H-U-G-E and hold all of my hair (and there is a lot of it) up with ease. They’re structured in a way that they’d add a lot of volume to hair that needs it, too. One tree of a native species in Canada is planted for each online order at Wild & Whimsy.

WHAT IS IT? Kate Austin kimono-style linen robe — From Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? There’s been a lot of buzz lately about “fast fashion” and how bad it is for the environment and for ethical working conditions. So with that in mind, let me introduce you to Kate Austin Designs who is committed to SLOW fashion. I first met Kate (virtually) this past summer when I chose one of her luxe silk kimono-style robes for my Instagram photo shoot aboard Le Boat Canada. And when she launched her new linen version of the same style, I just had to include it in the gift guide. The loose, drape-y fit still maintains structure through the sleeves and has an optional belt to create a more form-fitting silhouette, and just like the vegan silk robe I already have, the linen Kate uses is just wonderful — it’s thick but supple and has the perfect amount of wrinkle in it. It’s an investment piece that I have no doubt will last decades in your gift recipient’s closet. This is the gift you deserve to give to yourself this season (especially with the generous discount code below). A fine-arts-student-turned-designer, Kate is heavily influenced by her time spent living in Mexico. Her brand is HUGELY sustainability-focused. And Kate doesn’t just design the style of her garments — she designs the prints and patterns and textiles, too. You’ll quickly see how much colour is the driving force behind Kate’s stunning designs. Aiming for zero waste, she tries to use every piece of fabric that she creates. Her production partner in India actually uses a grey water recycling program to conserve water and is world fair trade org-certified. Kate also uses organic fabrics whenever possible and either walks or rides her bike to the studio every day!

WHAT IS IT? Lakeside Turkish Towel — from Lakefield, Ontario!
Why do we love it? I’ve been a big fan of Turkish towels for a long time, but I had never really given much thought about whether they were actually made of Turkish cotton or not before stumbling upon the ones from The Lake Hippie. Turkish cotton uses more sustainable growing practises, and on top of that, The Lake Hippie’s family-run vendor in Turkey uses only Oeko-Tex approved materials. The result is a strong, beautiful weave that feels really nice against the skin. But you may just want to display these beauties on a decorative ladder instead! The Lake Hippie supports a collective of like-minded folk that share respect for the planet through sustainable textiles, home decor & stellar styles; all towel packaging is compostable and plantable (seed paper that can grow into wildflowers!).

WHAT IS IT? Hook Sock & Underwear Christmas pack — from Sherbrooke, Quebec!
Why do we love it? Big B is pretty particular about his underwear, and has been wearing the same brand for many years. But it wasn’t hard to convince him to add the Hook brand from Mesbobettes in Quebec into his rotation. He loved the fit, the holiday-inspired pattern and they launder really well. And despite his size 14 foot, he also really liked the fit and feel of the socks that came in this gift set, too. I’ll be honest, the free Xmas stocking that comes with it is nothing special, but gimmick aside, the rest of the set is solid quality and really good value because of the bundle. It comes with two pairs of Hook Underwear boxers, two pairs of Hook Underwear socks and the knitted stocking. The company uses biodegradable and recyclable bags in all of its deliveries.
How much is it? Hook Christmas pack, valued at $97.97 — specially priced at $59.99. Free shipping in Canada and the USA on orders more than $35.

WHAT IS IT? Luxe Wool Wrap Vest — from Kawartha Lakes, Ontario!

Why do we love it? With or without its belt, this long and flowy wool vest (that appears almost frilly without the belt, oozing femininity) is one of the most cherished pieces I now have in my wardrobe. And it’s priced so unbelievably low considering how spectacularly beautiful it is IRL that it’s hard to believe there isn’t a digit missing. Using your personal measurements, Metio Creations will create a Luxe Wool Wrap Vest just for you or your gift recipient — and it’ll fit like a glove. Sustainability and eco consciousness is at Metio Creations’ core; it sources 90% of its materials from Deadstock, End of Line or Upcycled Textiles and the remaining 10% is usually eco-consciously produced, treated and/or ethically sourced.
How much is it? Luxe Wool Wrap Vest, $65+ based on customization and shipping weight. Use this link to get 30% off your order when you spend $10 or more.

WHAT IS IT? BBQ towel set — from Kawartha Lakes, Ontario!
Why do we love it? This towel set is a barbecuer’s must-have. Made of organic waffle cotton and organic print cotton, the set comes with three complementary patterns/colours and would look great hanging from an apron or slung over your BBQ King’s shoulders. The waffle fabric in particular is really nice. As mentioned above, Metio Creations sources most of its materials from Deadstock and End of Line or uses eco-consciously produced fabrics.

WHAT IS IT? Lacey lingerie
Why do we love it? Did you know that WonderBra is Canadian? I didn’t until a few days ago. And so it makes me even happier to tell you about the brand’s new New Wave line. Made with a SmoothTec® design with fused edges for a smoother look under clothes, each bra in the line is silky-soft with a gentle but supportive stretch. This racerback bra features targeted support zones for support without a wire and has really pretty lace detail on the back. These bras are so freaking comfortable that I have fallen asleep in them and worn them until morning — even the one I tried with underwire! What I love most about this as a gift idea is that the gift-giver doesn’t need to know the recipient’s bra size — because these simply come in S, M, L or XL.
How much is it? WonderBra New Wave V-Neck Lace Black Comfort, $52.

WHAT IS IT? JAG Jeans
Why do we love it? I’m a bit of a jean snob. There, I said it. So I wondered how much I would like jeans that didn’t make my wallet vomit. What do you know…? My body loves wearing JAG Jeans — some of which are true pull-on jeggings and others that are pull-on jeans with the option of a button and zipper (though you really can just pull them on and off without undoing either thanks to the hidden elastic waistband). I tried three different styles — the Ruby Straight Leg Jean, Eloise Bootcut and Valentina Skinny Pull-On (and I’m wearing all three throughout this gift guide) — in two different sizes since I’m on the cusp right now between 10 and 12. I have been wearing the Ruby and Eloise nonstop since they’re my favourite of the three, probably because both have the brand’s signature Best Kept Secret technology built into them. Both sizes fit me nicely, though I really felt the smaller size in the pull-on jegging as I tried to convince them to go over my butt. Where the Valentina style wins is that the fabric integrates REPREVE® recycled polyester made from recycled materials, including plastic bottles, as well as a sustainable fabric featuring CiCLO®️ fibres (which are synthetics that behaving more like natural fibres if they end up in landfill).
How much is it? Jeans start at CDN$84 / USD$74. (Contest winner will be able to choose preferred style and size of one pair of jeans.)

WHAT IS IT? SH500 SNOWSHOE
Why do we love it? These are some serious snowshoes — and they look and feel much more expensive than their price tag. Thanks to the two ratcheted tightening systems and their quick-release system, I think these will be an awesome addition to our winter sports toolbox, though of course we haven’t had the opportunity to do more than check out their quality indoors so far. These snowshoes (REF # 8535315) come in a variety of “decking” sizes, so be sure to check the weight limits in the drop-done menu. Be sure to refer to my earlier Decathlon listing to learn more about its sustainability practises.

WHAT IS IT? Soraya Wave by LELO
Why do we love it? Let’s just call this a “personal massager” since this is a family-friendly space, and if you know anything about LELO, you know that it’s a global leader in…personal massage devices. This rabbit-style, er, massager, is unique in that it almost creates a hands-free effect once it starts…massaging. Made of body-safe silicone, the WaveMotion™ technology will never leave you wanting more. It will also arrive discreetly packaged, with a sample of “massage lotion” for you to enjoy. Do not walk — RUN to buy this for someone special. Like yourself.
How much is it? The regular price before the current discount is $339 but it’s on sale for 25% off and is $255 for a limited time.

WHAT IS IT? Mejuri bracelet — from Toronto, Ontario!
Why do we love it? If you haven’t yet learned about Mejuri, you have to have to HAVE TO get quickly acquainted. This is fine jewelry at really accessible prices to suit a variety of budgets, and the pieces couldn’t be more beautiful. This is the Metallic Sphere Bracelet, a less expensive option to pure gold, it’s gold vermeil — a thick layer of 18k solid gold on sterling silver (not brass like most jewelry manufacturers who offer this option). The main difference is that you really shouldn’t wear this around-the-clock, including in the shower and to bed since it will wear over time if you don’t follow the care card instructions. But it comes in a lovely box with a tarnish-free cloth for storage and with conscious use, it’ll provide years and years of shiny happiness. Mejuri works along its entire production ecosystem, from sourcing and manufacturing to branding, to mitigate impact on the environment, support and empower its partners and give back to the community. The brand is also committed to tracing every material it uses and every piece of jewelry it creates back to its original source, which allow the company to positively influence each step and properly balance impacts on people and planet.
How much is it? Metallic Sphere Bracelet, $190. Free standard shipping in Canada on all orders; shipping costs to other countries vary and expedited shipping available for a surcharge.

WHAT IS IT? Spices & spiced nuts — from Whitby, Ontario!
Why do we love it? This local-to-me company makes oh-so-delicious things! The Falcon Rub Original Spice Rub is a tasty blend of aromatic spices and herbs paired with dark brown sugar that makes a gorgeous explosion of sweet and savoury flavours. Add it to grilled meats for spectacular caramelization, toss it on veggies or even eggs while cooking for some added oomph. I devoured the Falcon Nuts in one very fast sitting (and they were an amazing complement to the EATABLE tequila-based popcorn you’ll see elsewhere in this guide); it’s a mix of small-batch-roasted cashews and almonds roasted in the Original Falcon Rub spices and they’re mmm-mmm good. Think smoky, spicy, sweet — it’s a party in your mouth. Carmie is a caramelized onion jam made using slow-cooked onions and balsamic vinegar. While your first instinct might be to use it on a burger (and that would indeed be a good instinct to follow) — you have GOT to try it with cheese, especially sharp hard cheeses like a Dubliner and really soft cheese like Brie that’s been warmed.
*Allergy alert: Falcon Rub’s spice blends contain mustard, and our products may contain or have come in contact with peanuts, tree nuts, wheat gluten and/or sesame.
How much is it? Falcon Rub Original Spice Rub 100g, $6.95; Falcon Nuts, $4.35; Carmie (Caramelized Onion Jam) 125ml, $5.45.

WHAT IS IT? 3kg Hex Dumbbell
Why do we love it? It’s still a challenge in some parts of the country to find good-quality hand weights for your home gym needs, so I wanted to let you know that Mountain Warehouse actually has some 2 and 3kg Hex dumbbells on its site that are perfect for someone just getting started with light weight training at home. WHAT IS IT? Blume blends & frother — from Vancouver, British Columbia!
Why do we love it? You’ve probably seen Blume in your Facebook or Instagram feed, with its pretty packaging and pastel-hued beverages. I’ve been curious for so long about what Blume’s various blends taste like and am thrilled to tell you that all three I tried were delicious (both with cow’s milk and oat/nut milks). The “All Day Bundle” includes three of its most popular blends — my favourite of which is the Matcha Coconut…the right amount of grassy mouthfeel and flavour with a rounded, balanced, smooth finish and only a hint of sweetness. But if there’s one gift you need to get the latte lover in your life, it’s Blume’s milk frother (available in pink! SQUEE!) — it turns all of Blume’s bevvies and whatever other milk-based drink you’re making at home into something barista-worthy. Blume ships all of its blends from its warehouse in recyclable packaging and has more sustainability plans and projects coming in 2022.
How much is it? The All Day Bundle (Blue Lavender, Beetroot, Matcha Coconut), $65; Pink Milk Frother, $25. Use code MOMMYGEAREST15 for 15% off all items, excluding bundles, between December 13 and December 27, 2021. Shipping is $10.50 on all orders under $50 or free on all orders over $50.

WHAT IS IT? Reversa skin-care products — from Pointe-Claire, Québec!
Why do we love it? I only just learned about Reversa a few months ago, but after trying the brand’s Radiance Cream SPF 30 and Retin[A]list Eye Contour — retinol for the undereye area! — I needed to include them in my holiday gift guide. We’re all busy people, so I always love products that do more than one thing and the Radiance Cream is a superstar multitasker; it protects, hydrates and corrects at the same time. Featuring a blend of vitamin C, glycolic acid and Rumex extract (from the Canadian prairies), which helps reduce the formation of unwanted pigmentation. But what I like best of all is that it’s got 30SPF built into the formula and it’s hydrating enough that I can skip my morning moisturizer altogether when I use it. Did you know that your eye area ages 36 times faster than the rest your the face? I’ve been using eye cream since I was 22 to try and prevent as much aging around my eyes as possible and have so far, at 46, never treated them with anything like Botox or filler. But in the last year,I’ve started to notice a more hollow effect under my eyes for the first time and have wanted to try using my trusty retinol there, but the area is just so fragile that I didn’t want to take a chance. That’s what has made me fall completely in love with Reversa’s 36 times faster than the rest of the faceRetin[A]list Eye Contour; between the encapsulated retinol, Canadian chaga mushroom’s anti-inflammatory effects, hyularonic acid and shae butter, this all-star lineup has totally made a difference in only a few months. The company’s products and every formula come directly from its laboratory in Pointe-Claire, Québec, and are 100% vegan and cruelty-free, bearing PETA’s stamp of approval.
How much is it? Radiance Cream SPF 30, $50/50ml; Retin[A]list Eye Contour, $52/15ml. Shipping is free with orders of $50 or more. Under $50, shipping is $5. Also available at Shoppers Drug Mart.

WHAT IS IT? Mind Your Bees DIY Kit & Swedish Sponge — from Hamilton, Ontario!
Why do we love it? So you’ve always wanted to learn how to make your own beeswax wraps, right? I KNOW, me too! And my all-time favourite wraps-maker, Mind Your Bees, has put together just the kit, with everything you need to make a few at home. This would also be an awesome gift for a mature, responsible teen — but I kept it in the grownups section because it involves handling very hot wax. If you’ve never heard of, much less used, a Swedish Sponge cloth before, and you’re someone who is concerned with saving the Earth’s limited resources, you’ll be glad to know these work just as well as paper towels, can easily be washed in the top rack of your dishwasher and last for years. We’ve been using our first one for at least two years and it still functions like new.

WHAT IS IT? MINI TIPI Star Night Blanket — from Gatineau, Quebec!
Why do we love it? Star Quilts have been used for many generations among various First Nations as gifts of honour and protection. The Star Quilt design symbolizes our connection to the universe and beyond. This striking blanket is thick enough to lkeep you warm sitting by a campfire but also works really nicely as a throw on a chair or bed. It’s reversible, too! This blanket is of such high quality that you’ll be passing it down to your grandchildren one day. Please remember that if you wish to give Indigenous gifts this holiday season to ensure that you’re purchasing them from Indigenous makers and businesses like MINI TIPI who earn 100% of the profit from every sale. Avoid companies who make “Indigenous-inspired” products.

WHAT IS IT? Hart rechargeable power tools & minivac
Why do we love it? These aren’t just any old rechargeable power tools, they — and the handheld minivac — all use the same interchangeable 20-volt battery, so you’ll always have power at the ready. HART is a new brand that’s determined to make home improvements easier thanks to lighter-weight tools and products that can all share the same battery. That means, no matter which 20-volt products you buy from HART, they’ll all work no matter which battery you’ve got fully charged. The brand’s Lithium-Ion batteries are also fade-free, which means their power won’t fade during use. Truth be told, I wouldn’t even know how to load a bit into a drill, so I turned the testing over to Big B who was really impressed with HART’s quality against its price points. He can get pretty finicky when it comes to his tools — and he’s also the resident household vacuumer — and he tells me these are solid.

WHAT IS IT? Kokoon Relax Headphones

Why do we love it? These headphones have saved my sleep on so many occasions, I’ve lost count. Whether it’s blocking out noise due to thin hotel walls or ignoring meowing kittens in the wee hours of dawn, the unique white noise (blending sounds like a crackling fire, closing doors) Their streamlined shape actually means you really can wear them all night and remain fairly undisturbed. And for someone like me who likes to nerd out on her sleep stats but needs to charge her Apple Watch at night to ensure it’s ready to go for daytime use, the Kokoon Relax Headphones give me that, too. Developed with sleep scientists, the MyKokoon app will share your personalized sleep insights but also houses a series of meditations and other sleep-inducing soundscapes, CBT practises and more. The headphones even sense when you’re asleep and starts to quiet your immersive sound experience. I really love the hard case that carries the headphones, charging cord, optional wire input for devices that aren’t Blutetooth-connected and an eyemask to help darken your environment. I’ve taken it with me on every overnight trip I’ve made since I started testing them almost a year ago, and I plan to take them for air travel, too, since they double as regular headphones and I won’t worry about them falling out of my ears if I fall sleep. Oh! And the ear cushions are washable, too — bonus!
How much is it? $399.99. Readers who sign up to receive the Kokoon newsletter get a 10% discount. Free shipping in Canada.

We have these on rotation at home year-round as a hot compress for relaxation or as a cold compress to reduce inflammation, heal bruises or relieve pain. Shown here in the Extended model, I really wanted to share an extra-large sized MAGIC BAG that fits Big B, who has been known to use multiple bags to wrap around his XXL frame. And new this year, MAGIC BAG slippers! With an insert filled with flax seeds, you can heat these puppies up in the microwave for a soothing sensation on your soles that promotes better blood circulation and provides temporary pain relief for your feet. WHAT IS IT? Boketto Lane handmade luxury necklace — from King City, Ontario!
Why do we love it? I first shared Boketto Lane on Instagram a couple of years ago, and the designer’s work has only gotten more beautiful since. Her sense of texture and colour creates vibrant, unforgettable jewelry showstoppers. They’re conversation pieces and I’ve never left home wearing a Boketto Lane necklace and not had someone stop to ask me about it. This necklace is part of the “Confetti Collection” and I love the long, bold tassel and the real freshwater pearl accents. It’s one of those pieces that goes as well with jeans and a T-shirt as it does with an evening gown…if we ever get to wear those again this century!

WHAT IS IT? Ski goggles from Sport Chek
Why do we love it? I just featured these goggles in a post showing off a bunch of great new gear from Sport Chek that has me SO excited for ski season. They’re the Oakley Flight Deck™ M Women’s Ski & Snowboard Goggles in Matte White with Prizm HI Pink Iridium Lens and I am ridiculously stoked to get them out on the slopes. These goggles offer a mid-sized fit, which is better for smaller faces like mine. Inspired by the helmet visors of fighter pilots, Flight Deck XM maximizes your field of view and I can already tell from wearing them around my house that the peripheral vision on these are going to be incredible once I’m skiing. They come with a microfibre carry bag and have Ridgelock Technology, meaning you can quickly and easily change lenses if your conditions change. (Additional lenses sold separately.) These mark another perfect opportunity for a themed gift! Think of packaging them up with lift tickets and perhaps a great winter hat or ski mitts, both of which are of course available at Sport Chek.

WHAT IS IT? Koala Clip
Why do we love it? If you have a power walker, jogger or runner on your list this year, you NEED to get them a Koala Clip. I almost exclusively wear LNDR racerback sports bras for my outdoor walks and runs, and the Koala Clip is right at home with them. This so-smart-I-wish-I’d-thought-of-that idea is so simple you’ll wonder why this is the first time you’ve seen something like it; it’s really just a rectangular piece of fabric that’s big enough to hold your phone (with a little internal pouch for a key) that zips up and has a magnetic hook to attach it to the back of your bra. That’s it! And the fabric is so comfortable against your skin that once you get going, you forget it’s even there. This means you don’t have to worry about being imbalanced by keeping your phone in your left or right pockets. All of the outer fabric used on the Koala Clip Original and LUX are made from recycled plastic bottles and reclaimed fishing nets. The company also doesn’t use plastic bags when shipping its products and initiatives such as carbon offsetting and more are coming in 2022.
How much is it? Koala Clip LUX, USD$33.99. Andrea10 will get you 10% off sitewide and the company is hosting a double-up event in November where folks get get 15% off and then 15% of profits go to the nonprofit Protecting our Winters. That code is “DoubleUp”. Free international shipping (this includes Canada) for orders of $100 or more.
