Maybe it’s because I’m a certified SCUBA diver that I’m drawn to neoprene. It’s a pretty brilliant thing: keep warm things warm and cold things cold without any of the bulk you often get from insulators.
So when I first saw BUILT NY‘s line of Tidy Bibs, I was a tad confused…I mean, why would I need a neoprene bib? But the vibrant colours and cool shape (not to mention that the bib fastens with Velcro on the side, not the back – bonus!) were too good to pass up at less than 12 bucks.
THE GOOD
Super-absorbent, this has become one of our favourite bibs for the top end of the I’m-a-toddler-but-almost-a-preschooler age. We tote it everywhere because it packs up easily and tucks into even the smallest pockets in our diaper bag. It’s machine-washable, too – and though I haven’t quite figured out if I can throw it in the dryer, it isn’t really necessary because if you hang-dry it for 10 minutes it’s bone dry. And I’m always in favour of foregoing dryer use if I can.
THE GAFFE
The Tidy Bib is just too small in terms of it’s splatter footprint for a baby under the age of two – I prefer a full-length bib; and if it has sleeves? All the better. (A review of my favourite IKEA bib coming soon.) But can you imagine neoprene sleeves? Ah, no.
I’ve been washing this bib – in cold water in a HE washing machine – for about two-and-a-half years, and it’s full of pills. Knowing this, would I still go back in time and buy a BuiltNY Tidy Bib? You bet I would.
THE GEARS
3.5/5 (Note: this is my rating for the toddler/preschool age group only; it wouldn’t rate as well for my wee babe.)
So…where can you get it?
