We’ve been tinkering with where to place these stunning 28-inch slate planters from Multy Home. They looked great at the top of the steps, but our Canna flowers didn’t seem to be getting enough sunlight. So down they went. I’m still a tad perplexed about the “self-watering” claim. I still need to water them as regularly as my other potted plants, so perhaps I’m missing something. The company tells me that the soil perches above the base water reservoir (inside, at the bottom, there’s about a four-inch-high space) where the plant’s roots can stretch down out of the soil, directly into water. I do love that the optional drainage hole means that (1) overwatering is unlikely, and (2) these planters can be used indoors. I also LOVE the sustainability factor; each planter is made using recycled Ontario tire rubber (thank you, Ontario Tire Stewardship)! They’re guaranteed not to warp or crack for at least 365 days. My bet is that if you bring them in during winter, they’ll last for years. My main suggestion for improvement would be to make the base reservoir bigger for the bigger planters (it would really help save on excessive soil use, too). We also have the 20″ Multy Home planters, and the reservoir is the same height. Overally, I’m loving the sleek, modern look and durability of these planters. Available at The Home Depot.
